Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'Import failed (again)' in the forum. Are you importing from the copy on your hard disk or from the media card?
Are you using the camera or a card reader to read the 5D memory card?
How old is the memory card?
Have you tried making an FCPX archive from the memory card and then import from the archive?

Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'Stabilizing from clip to clip' in the forum.Scale each clip (zoom in), set spacial conform to type "none", and then adjust position to match from clip to clip. Lots of work and you'll lose some image quality.

Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'Multicam Edit' in the forum.Import alway imports your original media (or a link to your original media if you are not copying the media to your event). In addition to importing your original media you can generate optimized and/or proxy media. You don't have to do that at import time. You can later generate optimized and/or proxy media. When to do it is a matter of best meeting the needs of your workflow. What will work best for you.
There is no conversion back to original media. When your preferences are set to use proxy media that is what will be used. Before exporting your project change your preferences to not use proxy media. The system will then use either your original media or optimized media (if it exists).
If you click both options at import you will get three sets of media. 1) original (or a link to the original), 2) optimized, and 3) proxy. Which one to use is a function of your current FCPX preferences.

Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'Resolve Lite now on the Mac App Store' in the forum.Except the app store version doesn't see the database from the BMD version. I'm guessing it is a side effect of sandboxing for the app store. Now to figure out a way to get it to look at/for the existing database.

Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'Why timelapse?' in the forum. For time lapse you might take one shot every 2 seconds then play it back at 30 FPS for a 60:1 speed up... 60 minutes in 60 seconds. Add some camera movement for effect. Now you could take 60 minutes worth of video and speed it up by a factor of 60, but why? I can take 108,000 frames of video and throw away 90% or U can take 1,800 high(er) quality images and turn the image sequence into a time lapse video.
I use compressor to create a .mov out of the image sequence. youtu.be/rQwgXn2DsVg

Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'Copyrighted Music on Youtube' in the forum.Youtube's content-id is terrible. The answer the question asked in the imcometech article:
Why does YouTube allow them to claim ownership of compositions written hundreds of years ago? I have no idea.
is simple. Youtube allows it because there is a financial incentive to let it slide. Youtube makes money on any adds that are added to videos whose audio matches content-id. The only way to correct the problem in my opinion is to change the rules so google loses money on invalid content-id entries. That is about the only way they'll push back against bogus content-id registration.
About 20% of the videos I've uploaded have been flagged when the only audio used is ambient sounds I've recorded mixed with iLife jingles. You know, those audio snippets that are licensed for unlimited royalty free use. A bunch of them are in the content-id database as being owned by other than Apple.

Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'SteadiCam For iPhone - It's ALL In The App!' in the forum.Guess: no. I'm betting they are using the accelerometer built into the phone to help determine movement. I'd think that would be easier than analyzing video. Especially since they have to do it in real time.

For exporting fcpxml to Resolve. Resolve isn't happy with a compound clip, but drop that clip into a project and all is well.

Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'Camcorders vs DSLR and autofokus' in the forum.Neguah wrote:Why can´t you set you aperture to f22, and shoot with long shutter speed?
You can... but you get the depth of field that comes with f/22 that you might not want. The ND filter lets you shoot wide open for minimal depth of field while still using a slow shutter speed.
For shooting stills another popular filter is a circular polarizer. Lets see how many ways we can spend your money

Marco S Hyman replied to the topic 'Audio Drains Out' in the forum. The extension is the part of the file name that comes after the dot. It's a computer thing, not a Final Cut/Professional editing thing. If the file name is myfile.doc the extension is ".doc" or "doc" which often indicates the type of file.
You may have the display of file extensions turned off. I think that is standard on a Mac. So find the original file and select it (click on it). Hit ⌘I to get file info. Look at the section in the info window labeled General. It will tell you the file Kind. That may give a hint as to what is going on. Or not.
