it never gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling like Shake did. For serious work I mean requiring: advanced optical flow image analysis tools for stereoscopic 3D work, retiming and stabilization. Also third-party OpenFX plugins support, unlimited distributed network rendering, and Generation for studio wide multi user collaboration to track, manage, review and approve shots when working with large creative teams on complex projects.

As far as I know, there is no mac version of Fusion.
Nope, but as I mentioned it is coming.
According to Petty, the Blackmagic is indeed working on a Mac OSX version for all you Apple fans out there. It seems the sticking point, thus far, has been some "Windows specific code in the buttons and menus in Fusion," which are in the process of being re-coded for OSX. In fact, Blackmagic has "doubled the size of the [Fusion] engineering team," which should speed up the process. But Petty was quick to point out that, even with more coders, its impossible to predict when Fusion for OSX will be available to demo, let alone for general download.

What is your take on the free version of Fusion?
It is defiantly a awesome announcement! A course for serious work you will need the studio version but for $995 what more do you need?
My coworker already has the mind set forget After Effects and Motion.
I will defiantly take look at Fusion especially since it has Nodes!!!

Yes this is true, but isn't the CalDigit T3 (RAID 0, 1 and JBOD) in the same sector as the G-RAID Studio? Except it has extra drive for more flexibility.
I'em not even sure if the Pegasus even have a "on-board battery backup". I haven't found any documentation but I will take a close look when I get back in the cave tomorrow.

After having years experience with Promise and G-Technology I finally decided to go give CalDigit a try.
Not to big a fan of G-Technology new Studio design.

For my setup, I choose two AV Pro for Data managing and lookup archives, two T3 (RAID 0) for scratching and one T4 (RAID 5) Data storing.

I will see how well they will perform. ;)

I would't say you are limited with a software RAID. Software RAID also has many Pros to hardware RAID.
For my upcoming project I decided to use Caldigit hardware from production, post and archive.

I will be happy to share my experience if anybody cares?

There is more then just old code. They also has the team from Nothing Real.
It has been said... before Shake a industry standard compositing software was dropped like a brick.. some of team went to The Foundry to work on Nuke.

In this case I would say Apple had the resources maybe not the strategy and the will to cater a special crowd.

Here is nice explanation from Ron Brinkmann, which we should know, right?

I agree to a certain extent. But Shake and Color were specialized and scandalously expensive standalone applications that had no future whatsoever anymore with regard to the upcoming competition that was better and much cheaper. Apple only bought these apps for their technologies while still selling them standalone at a much reduced price. Many technologies that were developed for the original Shake and Color have found their way in legacy FCP, Motion and FCP X.

Also remember: legacy FCP started as Final Cut, a Windows program written by Macromedia that was acquired by Apple, and it became a huge success.

I'm sure Simon has very valid reasons for wishing that mObject would be fully integrated into Motion. Because it is developed by Apple, Motion can tap directly into the lower levels of the OS and that's why it is so powerful and fast. Third party developers have to build their programs on the upper levels of the OS. As 3D requires lots of horse power, I'm sure mObject could also be much more powerful and faster than it is now if it could tap directly into the lower levels of the OS. So it's not really such a crazy idea.

    - Ronny

Don't say Color and Shake had no future! :(
In the right hands they would have had a great future... look at Nuke...
Yeah you right they bought the Technology but to bad they are not using the good stuff. The paint tools in Shake rocked!
lol I think I will see if it will run in 10.10

One, Mac Pro, clean install with no issues with any of the applications and plugins.
The other Macbook Pro which have been updated since the Beta has some issues with Launchpad showing empty groups. Motion performance is not optimal. Compared to Mavericks. But all else is fine.

We know already know that there is some of Motion and what in Final Cut Pro X already.
But I'em not sure how well Final Cut Pro X will perform with round tripping.
I would rather have a option to add a reference clip that can be interchanged. For example I get a visual effect clip, knowing it will change and be updated. Add "reference clip" link it to the target clip. So when ever I update the clip it will automatically update. I know Final Cut Pro X doe something similar with clips that are importer to the Event or Library. But I want a reference clip that is not imported unless I get the final verso and on top of that as soon as the timing or resolution is different it can go.... crazy!

But I like to see some more option in Motion and Compressor.

So you are on a standard one 7200RPM USB disc?
Depending on the drive with USB2 you will be getting up to 480 Mbps and as haysoos123 suggested with Firewire 800 up to 800 Mbps.
Would you be able to switch to a Firewire 800 drive?

Also if you are already using Proxy in Final Cut Pro X also make sure it is set to Better Performance under Quality. Give it a try Let us know if that helps in anyway.
