Could you post a screenshot where?

It is just lazy design to abuse solder like Jony does with the macbook range, it should be able to be upgraded post purchase, things break, RAM does south, why not just have 2 types, one with fixed glued in RAM, oh that is called the AIR, and the other, PRO, which may be upgraded by 3rd party shops or qualified internal staff at say a big broadcaster????

That is just my point, it is laziness by Apple to not have 2 types, I would in a heart beat buy a 17inch macbook pro that allowed me to upgrade as an when I need to, that was the best part of the silver key macbook pro, I could change RAM as and when I needed, I replaced the broken dvd with a 2nd HDD, easy, now this new range....

Not everyone can afford to max out at purchase..

Actually it is not a lazy design, it is much easer to build a device with compartments. But you will not get the slim design that everybody wants.
Also there has been insider poles where they have compared how often a users actually upgrade or extended there devices in the Apple ecosystem. Not very often especially in Professional area. Usually if it is time to upgrade you mind as well get a new device. (Harddrive is different story)
The problem today is, devices are not coming as fast as they did. But with announcements of slow live cycles, it seems the technology speed bumps are not worth the money.
This is maybe we see much more activity in the service and experience level. ;)

Was there ever a Keynote from Apple where Final Cut Pro X was ever mentioned?
Also I do recall the Mac Pro line was announced and presented during the October timeframe.

Maybe, just maybe the keynote that was watched yesterday is for a different audience?
I mean macOS had also on air time.

    1. Z depth Compositing
    2. 3D Tracker or add Mocha
    3. Metal Driven
    4. More and better format support
    5. Adobe Illustration support
    6. Paint Tools
    7. 3D Model support would be cool
    8. Not that important

That was probably someone with little experience on FCPX. Doing basic tagging and rating is incredibly simple. I have explained it to long-time Premiere editors who have never touched FCPX and within minutes they "get it" and can see the benefit.

Other items of the interface such as roles and the magnetic timeline can require more thought because it's a different approach. Likewise media and storage management is more complex than Premiere because Premiere doesn't have any, except as of a few weeks ago they now have proxy.

Stabilizing or doing optical flow on multicam -- now THAT is far more complex in FCPX than in Premiere. It's funny how the anti-FCPX people never mention that, when it's one of the worst parts of FCPX. They obviously haven't used it much or simply don't do multicam.

Maybe this will be improved in 10.3, especially since the lead editor of Focus complained about it.

Maybe I didn't explain it correctly. I meant complex as in how easy Final Cut Pro X handles complex situation.
She felt that using its tagging and role function is much easier to handle a complex project vs Premiere Pro.

What you mean about Multicam? I think Final Cut Pro X has one of the best Multicam tools.

When you consider that Final Cut Studio cost a whack more than $300, $300 is cheap, by my not complex statement, I was referring to the user interface, it is not as complex as say Premiere or Avid is, this is by design, and Apple worked hard to make the complex interface less complex, hide the complexity deep inside, rather than on the interface, and that sorry is a bloody good thing!!!

Avid, omg, I was offered a free license for an Avid, but had to pay the annual update/service fee upfront, so I turned it down, I have no idea how many updates I am buying in advance.

I think that FCPX is the most efficient editing system yet created, no question, that however does not excuse Apple for taking well over a year, April 2015 to August 2016 to release a killer update, the only 2 outstanding updates since April 2015, 3d text and sharing to multiple youtube accounts, 16 months and only 2 decent features..

No updates for almost 200 days, nothing, it takes 16 months to beta test roles based audio mixing??? Gee..sorry but 16 months...

Funny you say that, today someone told me Final Cut Pro X is very complex with its tagging and roles functions. Complex not in use but as a solution.
You compared Final Cut Pro X which cost $299 with Final Cut Studio that ran $1000, you forgot that Final Cut Studio also came with Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, Soundtrack, DVD Studio Pro, LiveType, Apple Qmaster and Cinema Tools.
Take it that direction Final Cut Pro X is pretty expensive.

There are many reasons why Apple does things.
But to get down to the core. Imagine Apple releasing a beta version of Fina Cut Pro X that is buggy to the public. This could backfire extremely.

Also Final Cut Pro X is more module when it comes to updating vs to there OS, well there update program shows.
So if something honest work in the beta don't release it until it works, again that could backfire on Apple.

Don't forget the OS public Beta is pretty set when it comes to function and features.
I think we will see a major update soon .

At the moment we are about to finish up a project.
But we like to create a directors cut for ourselves.
I just can't get way from the main concept. Originally we have footage of portraits in front of black background which all are looking into the camera (dialog is running underneath). With a dolly in.

I have footage where the talents look into the camera in front, from the side or they look up into the camera.
For the original cut I used only the clips where the talent looks straight in to the camera.

Anyways what would guys do other then original what solution do you have?

They used approximately 100 cameras in a circle and shot it in a high frame rate. You can find a similar effect when searching bullet time and Matrix.

It looks like the motion blur was created in combination with photography and post.
Do a search for Steven Sebring you will find some cool info.

Depends what you want Speed, Storage or Both?
If you want both I would suggest a RAID.
If you want Speed and still be mobile then a SSD might be your better choice.
For storage then a standard mobile drive is the way. They are also cheap.

I use a RAID on the desk, and standard 7200 USB 3 or Thunderbolt to be mobile and transfer files from one desk to another.

The new CalDigit Tuff drives (they come in SSD and HDD) are pretty good and price not that in there position.
And they already have the 3.1 USB Type-C interface.

A while back I decided to do the rough cuts and reports on my way back on the train and by air.
Since I didn't have access to electricity during my travel, I made sure I also offloaded the cards to the RAID and on the mobile drives (CalDigit Tuff). Used two HDD for storage and one SSD as my scratch. When I got back I spit out the XML and uploaded the timeline to frame.io

Charge by the hour, or if you have Flat-Rate for the project then I would suggest extra charge by time for anything that has to be down out scope of the contract.

I agree on the helping, a friend, co-worker or partner. In this case on hand washes the other.
Again its all about tactics you want the client to come back. I always a little something something but that can be down by rounding down the bill and etc... ;)

Here is a rate that you can safely go by in Germany.

    Per Hour netto / brutto
    120,- | 142,80 EUR

    Per 1/2 Day (4 h) netto / brutto
    450,- | 535,50 EUR

    Per Day (8 h) netto / brutto
    800,- | 952,- EUR

I would calculate hardware separate from service calculation. Also usually I calculate new drives (1 Scratch, 2 Backup optional and 3 Archive optional) to each project depending on the size of the project.
