Been very happy with the 8TB G-Raid Thunderbolt. Was thinking about possible getting a 4TB model as well. Looks like they just came out with a G-Drive Pro with Thunderbolt. One 7200 RPM drive. The 4TB model is 250.00 more then the G-Raid 4TB. What would be the advantage of the Pro model? Is it just safer because it's only one drive to go bad instead of two? Could one 7200 drive be faster then a two 7200 raid setup?

Older laptop with different source video has me using proxies. Seems to run smoother when I do that. Not sure if the GoPro needs it, but as my workflow is with proxies it's just part of the process. If you are running an older machine that has trouble with video, why not use proxies? FCPX makes it so simple.

If you check the link I posted above you will see the adapter. I purchased one of these for my GoFlex to change from USB3 to Firewire. However, I don't use this drive for video editing. Just for backing up files. If you want to go with Thunderbolt you can get this adapter: www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home...&is=REG&Q=&A=details Although it costs a bit more, it would future proof for when you upgrade your Mac and FireWire is no longer available on it. I still wouldn't do anything until you know the drive speed. Interesting - I didn't realize the G-Raid was only raid 0. Sounds like the Duo with 5400 wouldn't be that fast. So, if you are looking for raid 1 then neither of those drives is the best solution? I'm just going to be using raid 0. I have two 3TB G-Tech FireWire drives I will use to BU my 8TB drive when I get it. I'm on a late 2011 Macbook Pro 15" with SSD drive and 16 Gigs of ram. Looks like LaCie makes a 6TB for 700.00 that will do raid 0 or 1, but I don't think I'm interested in raid 1. So for a 100 more I can get another two TB. The Promise 8TB is 1650.00 - twice as much. Leaning towards the G-Tech, but still curious if anyone has used one?
