I'm not alone! Thanks. I hope we figure this out soon. My work has come to a complete halt right now. My only option is to make all my type in PS first. What a PITA.

I'd delete pref files and all render files.
When you did your reinstall, did you run "FCS Remover" first?
I did another full reinstall after using FCS Remover. The problem is till there.
I made a new project and new event just to try that and still the kerning is gone on export!
This time I just used the basic type clip with helvetica. Here are two more images of "before in FCP X" and after exporting a master file (or any file for that matter) opened in QT.

Devin Bousquet replied to the topic 'Kerned type in video exports as un-kerned!?' in the forum.I tried opening the project on my laptop and the type now looks un-kerned in the project. So somehow what I'm seeing on screen in FCP X on my iMac is incorrect. I'm guessing I need to uninstall and reinstall?

Devin Bousquet created a new topic ' Kerned type in video exports as un-kerned!?' in the forum.Using the a simple basic type clip, I have made it look nice, kerned, sized, and animated etc. When I export the video it's not kerned anymore. The size, face, outline, and animation are all correct but the kerning is gone. WTF?
I've tried the basic fixes such as trashed prefs, deleting render files on both event and project. Not sure what else I can try. Anyone ever had this?
I'm using a iMac 3.4GHz on 10.8.2 with FCP X 10.0.7
The type layer is just the basic type from FCP X.

Devin Bousquet replied to the topic 'What is a professional editor going to do with FCP X?' in the forum.Trust me I'm with all of you. I feel very confident in X now and honestly hate having to go back to 7 when I run in to cut a spot or two at my mainstay shops. A lot of my work is at a national agency's in-house facility. It houses 6 edit bays, 2 flame and 4 A Effects/3D bays. Since we work on the same clients year around it makes having events and keywords feel like a gift from a higher power. There is so much reusing of footage, especially when pitching new clients and having to make "brand" vids that reuse footage from large collections amassed of the years. But the TV commercial world can be very rooted in tradition because so much money is at stake.
I had a guy say "do you want to put your career on the line with a $300 piece of software?". Well sure we're all doing it right now with a $1000 piece of software.
I actually prefer being a "pioneer" and showing others why X is professional and faster too. I've even had some of the Avid guys try to say the XMLs don't work or you can't export audio for a mix. So I guess they stopped looking at X after version 1.0.
I'll brush up on my skills on Avid and Premiere. That only makes sense of course. You have to have a wide base to be viable. But you also have to stay relevant with new tech as well.

Devin Bousquet replied to the topic 'What is a professional editor going to do with FCP X?' in the forum.I certainly can edit in all of the others it's just annoying and reduces the work quality IMO.
For years pretty much any house would be fine with FCP unless they were hardcore Avid places because of shared media/drives. Thing is I cut very little at home for pay. Clients are generally always in the bay with me on spots of course. It's really a bummer to have to use tools you don't enjoy.

Devin Bousquet created a new topic ' What is a professional editor going to do with FCP X?' in the forum.First off let me say that I love FCP X. Next, for the record I've been a professional TV commercial/advertising video editor for 11 years. I have a decent reel of national spots and have worked for many agencies in several different cities. I've used FCP since my start and used Avid for 3 years while living in LA. Currently I am freelance and love it.
As much as I want to use FCP X now, no post facilities will even consider letting me. I constantly argue with Avid guys as to how much better FCP X handles organization, audio, effects, color etc. Yet there is one side of their argument that always makes me think... "Apple doesn't care about the professional anymore and will kill your career and livelihood by suddenly ending it's support for you like they did with Shake, Color, Soundtrack, DVD Studio, and so on." Also as a freelancer you have to work with the house's infrastructure. So right now I can't work anywhere with FCP X and not one place I frequent will listen to my praise for FCP X. They just laugh at me.
I'm beside myself with grief because using Avid makes me want o go out and kill. Premiere is a joke, and Smoke? Well I don't really know enough about Autodesk's child to comment.
I need to pay my mortgage like the next guy. I'm not sure how to win this argument with my peers. As much as I do love FCP X and want to be the guy who makes everyone else realize what they're missing, I'm not sure possibly hurting my career is worth it. I don;'t know of a major post house that is using FCP X yet.
Anyone else having this moral dilemma? I want to win this argument but not sure I can.

Devin Bousquet replied to the topic 'Audio and position keyframe problems/glitch?' in the forum.OK so I trashed my prefs for a second time and restarted the box. That seemed to fix the problem. Very strange that I would need to trash them twice.
thanks for the response.

Devin Bousquet created a new topic ' Audio and position keyframe problems/glitch?' in the forum.I'm having a weird issue when I add audio level keyframes and/or video position keyframes. The first time I add a new keyframe to any audio track it puts the keyframe in a random spot rather than where my playhead is. Same with positioning keyframes making animation nearly impossible. After the first one it then properly puts the keyframe where the playhead is. It's very odd and very annoying.
I've trashed prefs and restarted with no fix. Any other ideas?

Devin Bousquet created a new topic ' Compound clips keyframing problem?' in the forum.I tried to search but didn't really find an answer. After making a compound clip with say 4 logos and a base video layer, I step in to add some position keyframes to the graphics and FCP puts the first key frame where my playhead is in the project timeline not where it is in the compound clip. So for example if my playhead was in the center of the compound clip in the project timeline then I double click the compound clip then put the playhead at the start of a single logo graphic to add a keyframe it will put the keyframe in the middle not where I've put the playhead on the single layer. Make sense? Anyone having this problem?

Devin Bousquet replied to the topic Re: Duplicating Project makes a folder instead? Glitch? in the forums. My engineer is telling me that the AVID ISIS engines are windows formatted in some way (not sure what type, fat 32 etc) but it talks to our MACs through the ISIS Client Manager app. Similar to a Unity system.
When we updated to Lion the search feature in the OS won't work with any mounted workspaces. They say they are working on it but AVID blames Apple and Apple won't say anything.

Devin Bousquet created a new topic Duplicating Project makes a folder instead? Glitch? in the forums.I'm working on a Avid ISIS shared storage system. However, I am on a Mac tower and we are a Mac shop. Media and Events are on a footage workspace and projects are on a separate project workspace. When I try to duplicate a project it makes a new folder instead? I have no idea why. Thoughts?

Devin Bousquet created a new topic FCP X with AVID ISIS drives? in the forums.I'm pushing FCP X at my edit house embedded in a national ad agency. So we mostly cut tv spots. Anyway, we have an AVID ISIS shared storage system. I break out FCP X to give a demo to my fellow editors and what...? I can't see any mounted drives from the ISIS. Anyone have any idea why? Are we just going to have to wait for Avid to update their software? That could be painful.
