Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Renaming Parts of Clips' in the forum. You can rename the part of a clip that appears in the timeline.
If you add your interview to your project, you can slice it up by blading it.
You can then rename each part of the interview by control- or right-clicking it and choosing Rename from the context menu.
For screenshots:

If you don't want these clips in your timeline, you can select them all and make them into a compound clip which will be added to your default event. You can delete the compound clip from your timeline and refer to named clips in the compound clip by selecting it in your event and choosing 'Open in Timeline' using control- or right-click context menu.

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'FCPX 10.0.8 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION' in the forum.Disproportionate Pictures:what is everyone's MOST WANTED new/reintegrated feature? Let's leave bug fixes and optimization out of it for now. If there was only ONE focused area of development, where would you like it?
Metadata access for Motion effects, a great use of which would be the ability to create metadata display Title generators. If chosen titles could be tagged as 'Viewer Overlay' they could then display during editing but not when exporting.
As well as timecode, slate info and camera settings (such as ALEXA lens ring positions), time-based metadata could include keywords assigned using Final Cut, imported as XML and dialogue for subtitling and trivia commentary.

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Troubleshooting a corrupt Motion Project' in the forum. If the rig is not listed in the layers pane, it probably isn't in the project (unless it's a Display Aspect Ratio snapshot rig, which are invisible, but from what you've said, this doesn't apply).
So, delete the image mask (in Motion if you can, or in a text editor if you can't), and recreate it in your destination project.
In practice, Motion doesn't like layers with behaviours being used as sources for image masks - probably due to the execution order of behaviours vs. image masks.
I suggest you use the shape you want to apply the rig or behaviour as an alpha or luma mask using a stencil or silhouette blend mode (and stopping the blend mode stencil applying to all layers below by setting the blend mode of the parent group of the luma or alpha mask to Normal instead of Pass Through).

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Making changes from clip in Event Viewer update in the storyline?' in the forum. This is the way compound clips work since the 10.0.6 update.
Select a clip you'll want to modify in multiple places in a timeline or in multiple projects, right- or control-click it and choose New Compund Clip and enter a name. The new compound clip will appear in your default event. Any changes made to that compound clip from now on will be reflected everywhere the cc is used.

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Troubleshooting a corrupt Motion Project' in the forum.I've foud that image masks can get corrupted and crash Final Cut Pro.
Does Motion crash when you save as well as when you close? If so, copying all your layers and pasting into SimpleText will preserve layers if Motion crashes.
To fix image mask corruption I've renamed rigged image masks (or image masks that use mask layers which have behaviours) as XXXXX and their associated rigs (if any) and then opened the .motr file in SimpleText and searched for 'XXXXX' and deleted from mask to /mask and the relevant rig nodes.

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Rigging - how to inverse a slider?' in the forum.BenB
It might be better to publish one and use a Link Parameter Behavior to the other an Apply Mode of Add to Source and a scale of -1, but I thought it best to introduce the concept of one widget controlling more than one parameter.

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Rigging - how to inverse a slider?' in the forum.Karsten,
0. Make sure 'Slider Right' and 'Slider Left' aren't published because you'll be creating a new Slider widget that will control both.
1. Before you create your new slider, set the value of 'Slider Right' to 0% and the value of 'Slider Left' to 100%.
2. In the Inspector, Right- or Control-click the 'Slider Right' parameter and add it to a new slider widget using the pop-up menu. (Add to Rig > Create New Rig > Add to New Slider)
3. Rename your new 'Slider' by double-clicking the name in the layers list and entering a new name.
4. Right- or Control-click the 'Slider Left' parameter and add it to the new slider widget (that you created in step 2) using the pop-up menu.
5. Select your new 'Slider' widget. In the inspector you'll see the value of 0 in your new slider corresponds to 'Slider Right' being 0% and 'Slider Left' being 100%. Change the value of your new slider to 100, then modify the values of the 'Slider Right' to 100% and 'Slider Left' to 0%. Try out your new slider by dragging its thumb and see the values of both 'Slider Left' and 'Slider Right' change.
6. You can publish your new widget by right- or control-clicking it's name in the inspector and choosing Publish.

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'HELPPPPP' in the forum. If you want to run Final Cut Pro without the new plug-ins, you can uninstall them by going to the Motion Templates folder in the Movies folder of your Home folder. Imagine the effect you want to remove is called 'Alex4D Letterbox' - which is in a category named 'Alex4D': img]alex4d.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/in-browser1.jpg[/img] To remove it, first open the folders on your computer so they look like this: [image] The 'Alex4D Letterbox' is stored as a special folder that Final Cut Pro uses make the effect available in projects. Drag the effect folder (known as a 'Motion Template') from inside the Motion Templates folder to anywhere else on your computer. If the effect is causing Final Cut Pro not to open, then moving it will fix your problem. @Alex4D

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Pixel Film Studios Plugins' in the forum. How fast is PROMASK (I think the official name is in all caps!)? When I made my 16-point mask effect in Motion for Final Cut, I thought adding any more points would make it too slow for most users. Are the individual mask points keyframable, because that would mean using an FxPlug (a non-Motion created plug-in as seen in CoreMelt's SliceX), which should be much faster than other masks. @Alex4d

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'How do I stay logged in?' in the forum.Any news on whether this will be fixed? As I'm staying on the oldest version of MacOS that FCPX allows, I'm still using Safari 5.1.7. I imagine I'll have to upgrade to a newer version of Safari when the next major version of Final Cut comes out. Do MacOS 10.7 and newer also have to log in every time they visit? @Alex4D

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Re: A free sharpen and Six free blur Final Cut Pro X effects' in the forum. If you visit my blog, you'll see instructions and download link there: alex4d.wordpress.com/2012/02/12/blurs-7-free-fcpx-effects/ In this fcp.co free effects forum there is no standard way to provide download links as each effect is made by a different designer. Some provide direct download links here in the forum, some - like me - keep the download links on their own sites or mentioned in the description of the YouTube videos that demonstrate their work. Read the first post of each topic carefully to see which method each designer has chosen. @Alex4D

Alex Gollner replied to the topic 'Need a favor: Apple default "Information Bar" needs an Opacity slider for the background bar' in the forum. Most effects created these days (in Motion 5.0.6) should work in versions of Final Cut Pro X as old as 10.0.3. If you haven't updated Final Cut, newer effects will not load by default - it checks to see the version of Motion that created the effect. However, if you edit the start of the Motion template, there is a good chance it will work in 10.0.4. 10.0.6 and 10.0.7 compatible .moef, .motr, .motn and .moti files start with the following text: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE ozxmlscene> <ozml version="5.5"> <displayversion>5.0.5</displayversion> Apple has confirmed that the file format for Motion templates hasn’t changed since the introduction of Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3. Use a text editing application such as TextEdit to change the start of the files so that Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3-10.0.5 and Motion 5.0.2-5.0.4 will open them: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE ozxmlscene> <ozml version="5.2"> <displayversion>5.0.2</displayversion> Note that if the Motion template uses a FxPlug installed plug-in that isn’t compatible with the old version of Final Cut Pro you are using, then the template won’t work.
