  • This post is not directly about FCPx, but related to the audio clips you lay in your FCPx project, or should I say the lack of a proper music clip. I want to point your attention to my newest book "GarageBand for iPad - How it Works" that teaches you how to use Garageband on your iPad so you can quickly create your own musical bed or jingle for your video without any licensing or copyright restrictions.

"GarageBand for iPad- How it Works" is released as part of my "Graphically Enhanced Manuals (GEM)" series. Some of you might be familiar with my other books in that series for FCPx, Compressor, Motion and also Garageband11. If you haven't seen any my books, please check out the samples on my website to find out about my unique style of writing manuals with rich graphics and diagrams that helps you understand the applications.

This new GarageBand manual is good for beginners but also for advanced users. It is the only full featured manual for GarageBand for the iPad that covers all the features in great details (not just a quick start guide and cherry picking of a few topic). It explains Apple's popular music production application "GarageBand for the iPad" with rich illustrations and diagrams that are not found in any other manual. I even cover new concepts like iCloud and iTunes File Sharing in great details and that knowledge is extremely useful for other applications too.
This is a self published book without any publishing company. Available as pdf file from my website (soon as printed book on Amazon or as interactive Multi-Touch eBook for the iPad on Apple's iBookstore).

    Thanks for you interest,

  • That's exactly what I'm talking about. A lot of video editor don't' realize that how easy it and fast it is. Maybe even faster than going through piles of Library tracks and still not finding the right track. And don't forget to register your music cue with a performing rights organization (ASCAP, BMI) if you know it is going on air. Some money on the back end waiting for you right there. (Now that I have encouraged more editor to create their own music instead of hiring me the film composer, I have to sell more books to compensate for my lost future revenues ;) )

  • Logic, GarageBand, MainStage and Soundtrack have all the same foundation. They access the same installed Apple Loops, Plugin Settings and Channel Strip Settings. The Project Files are also upward compatible. You can start a Project on your iPhone (GarageBand iOS), load that into GarageBand 11 on the Desktop to continue to work and later open the GarageBand project in Logic to get really serious. And yes, MainStage is the best deal to get all the Apple Loops. An amazing price if you consider that each JamPack was $99 at. BTW, if you have any Apple Loops form your old FCP installation that came with Soundtrack, those Loops and SFX will also at your fingertip, right there in GarageBand, next to all the other Apple Loops. If you want to get more serious with Apple Loop (create your own, indexing other audio files libraries into Apple Loop, etc), I have a free manual about Apple Loops on my website. It is from 2005 but no that much has changed since then. dingdingmusic.com/DingDing/ManualsFree.html
