I'm sorry you lost me, I think we are talking past each other.

There are two ways to get user content fed into a generator:

1. Drop Zones (for project media already inside the host application)
2. File Chooser (for a file on disk)

We chose not to use drop zones at this time for the reasons I mentioned. This leaves us with the File Chooser, which is what is implemented in the Pan and Zoom implementation in Final Cut Pro X.

If you look at FCP7, Motion and AE you will see that the pan and zoom plugin supports both Drop Zones and File Chooser there.
