Hi guys !

So, I'm trying to do the MOST RIDICULOUS workflow I know, but still:

- A friend of mine has edited his project on Resolve 14
- I want to grade it but I only master FCPX, I can do it with ColorFinale
- And then I want to maybe send it back to Resolve for minor tweaking or finishing

But of course because no one does this, I'm having problems:
- I get tons of warnings once I import the fcpxml (1.5) in FCPX
- If I grade with ColorFinale, I need to export the clips, right ? How do I import them back in Resolve ?

In short: can it be done ? If so, thanks for your help !

Interesting problem, and you're right that you may be the only person to ever do this! I think the biggest problem is Resolve's fcpxml export. Now, technically you should be able to round trip if you're going fcpx->resolve->back to fcpx. I've done this many times, but in general we strip out the audio because it's so underdeveloped in Resolve that it causes a lot of problems (and of course we just use Resolve for picture grading only). Not sure how you want to se it up, but you might have more success dealing with the picture only.

Additionally, there's no way to easily bake in your grades from ColorFinale other than a flat export. You might be okay with that as long as the picture is locked.

Honestly, if it were me, I would take it as an opportunity to learn grading in Resolve. If you know ColorFinale and grading in general, then the hardest part you already know. Keep things basic at first, and just do straight connected nodes and treat them like the layers in ColorFinale. The only thing that's appreciably different in terms of UI is how to do vectors in Resolve, but the concepts are the same. You'll appreciate the ease of doing power window tracking and things like that. So to sum up, instead of spending hours trying to hack it all together and fixing problems, you'd probably be up and running in Resolve in a couple of hours.

Thanks for your nice answer ! I've been considering this too, looks like an opportunity... which I've been resisting so far haha
