Good Morning,

Can anybody tell me why FCP X would automatically make actual copies of Libraries in the Libraries folder?

I have regular back ups in the "Final Cut Backups" folder as well, but for some reason the folder that contains my libraries seems to sprout extra versions? They are of considerable size and contain all the media (of an earlier moment).

First, what is the "Libraries" folder?
Second, how are these libraries named? That may give you a clue as to how they are being created.
I don't think FCP X is doing this. It only makes backup libraries, WITHOUT media.

Hi Lichinho,

Strange ... I added a screenshot, but ... where did it go?

I made a custom folder to put my Libraries in. The naming of the Library copies is actually the same format as the Backups!!! Something like this: 20170421_2043_GMT+2.fcpbundle . But than with this coding added to the original Library name. I could not find any Backup with exactly the same number however. Otherwise I would start to think, that for some reason I opened a backup. One Library had about 6 of these copies. I'm not that stupid.

This sounds like you have the Library properties set to save backups in the library, except for that would not include the actual media. The backups are the library database only and unless changed they default to the users/Movies folder. You can check this in the library properties in the inspector within FCPX. This is where you also choose locations for caches and motion content, as well as media, however media is not part of a backup.

If you are actually seeing the media clips then it is possible you may have some other type of third party backup system creating backups of your entire library but I assume you would know if you are using such an application.
