X-Title Importer for Caption just went online.

It gives you the freedom to convert dfxp (itt and others), sami, sbv, srt, stl, vtt, untimed text etc into either Titles or ITT captions projects with full role support for both types.
Simply select the target type and your subtitle source.

While it is technically not a problem to include CEA it doesn't make sense. FCPX doesn't support CEA 708, means not all languages are supported. Additionally from my experience 99% of subtitle sources are not "CEA safe" and will result in a project with 100s of errors.

When I try step 3 in your help document I do get to select the XML file but then I get a window asking for Marker type. When I click ok I get this AppleScript error: The variable result is not defined. (2753). XTI is showing it is converting the titles but instead it just runs forever until I click Stop.

What exactly do you want to do?
Could you describe step by step what you did?

Following the Help document, I create a template in FCPX. I pick one of the titles that XTI installed and put it on the timeline. I then export an XML of the timeline. Back to XTI I import the the timeline template XML using the Select File and Convert. Next I get a window about Markers and I click on the OK button. Then I get the AppleScript error and XTI's dialogue says it is converting the file. But I never get the window asking me for the caption file. I have to then stop the process otherwise the conversion process will continue forever. I am able to get the caption file into XTI without using the template process and get a conversion that will import into FCPX.

The help says that you either create your own template or use one of the build-in.

If you want to use your own: un-check 'use template'
Then the app will ask you to select a template, then select a subtitle source file.

If you leave the 'use template' checked
Then the app will not ask you to select a template, but select a subtitle source file.

If you select your template as source (that what you did) the app assumes that it is a file using Markers as subtitles - there aren't any. Unfortunately it runs into an endless loop. I'll fix that.

If you want to create Captions : in Templates and Roles select Captions (instead of FCPX Titles)
Then the app will not ask you to select a template, but select a subtitle source file.

Thank you for the clarification. We shoot in 1080 29.97 but make our projects 720 so we can enlarge clips that have bad jump cuts. I guess it doesn't really matter what XTI template I pick as long as it at 29.97.

Right - at the moment you paste the titles into your 'main' project they match the size - but you may have to adjust font size.
