Final Cut Pro 10.4.3 is out with some bug fixes:
  • Support for viewing and editing ProRes RAW files from DJI Inspire 2 drone with the DJI D-Log setting
  • Deleting unused render files from a Compound clip in the browser works correctly
  • Fixes an issue that caused some Panasonic P2 video files to be imported with mixed-down audio channels

Nothing big, but it is something. I think the next big one will be in October!

Just remember, every month you use it, the cheaper your subscription to it gets. Adobe since July 2011 at $25 USD per month, today would have cost you $2100.

He is simply comparing the cost of owning FCPX outright to the subscription based cost of owning PP.
Creating history....one edit at a time !

I get that but why are we mentioning this in a update thread...
But that is okay... I was hopping to see something for compressor to transcode Canons RAW media to ProRes RAW!

Yes, imagine the possibilities of Canon DSLRs shooting RAW video with the help of Magic Lantern and then converting it to ProRes RAW, preserving most of the latitude of the files.

There still is quite some misunderstanding about what ProRes RAW really is.

Just like any other form of RAW, ProRes RAW is an acquisition-only format. ProRes RAW accesses the RAW image data from the camera sensor. That's why it must be created in the camera, or in the external capture device from the camera, when the original image is recorded. It does not make much sense to "convert" existing RAW or other footage into ProRes RAW.

There is a lot of interest to support ProRes RAW, both from camera manufacturers and from software developers. I know that Adobe is working on adopting ProRes RAW in Premiere, and in time we will see more cameras and recording devices adopt ProRes RAW as an acquisition option. I think this has been a very smart move from Apple.

So which version of ProRes would one use to convert from Canons RAW?

No matter what codec you convert it to, you will lose the ability to access the raw data from the camera sensor. Canon does have a new plugin that allows Canon RAW Light footage to be imported natively in FCP X, but I have no experience with this:

www.canoneurope.com/support/consumer_pro...e=EN&os=MAC%20OS%20X

If the footage has been shot in a fairly professional way, you won't need to do any deep corrections and you can convert to ProRes 422. If you want to preserve as much latitude as possible because shots have been drastically over- or underexposed, convert to ProRes 4444 or 4444XQ.

If you have a camera or a camera device that allows you to shoot in ProResRAW, you have the best of all worlds.

thank you for the info!

The problem is that many other Apps do not support Canons RAW natively also the OS. You need a Editing Application to preview material.

I just don't understand why Sony, Canon and Co just jump on the Pro band wagon and start supporting ProRes like RED and Arri!

Thanks Ronny You say it well and everyone should read this again and again

Seeing lots of folks not understanding this and making all kinds of claims about ProRes RAW. Here's to hoping that camera manufacturers do indeed adopt the format.

Thanks, Greg
