Hi

So over the period of time, I have purchased few FCPX plugins and so far as an editor was using it successfully in my Imac as an ADMIN user.

Now on the same PC , If I make a guest Account or an Alternative A/c for my editor to use FCPX, the application works fine but all the purchased plugins, dont show up under effects/Crossfades/titles ect.

How can I ensure that my guest user or a alternative Admin USER on same Imac, can use all the plugins ?

Hi Robin,

A large number of FCP X plugins are Motion Templates, and these are stored in the Users > Movies folder.

- The safest way to solve this is to install all the plugins for the new user.

- If that's too much trouble, you can try to just copy the contents of your Motion Templates folder into the Motion Templates folder of the new user and check if you have everything. The ones you don't have will need to be installed fresh for the new user.

- When you create custom Motion Templates in one user, you can store these templates into the Library so that the other user will also be able to access them.

oops..so simple..let me try..

but another way possible as my MacPro has only 256GB of space and dont want to end up making multiple copies of Motion Templet folder foe 2-3 users..

is this the only way ?

Motion Templates are quite tiny. I have literally many hundreds of plugins and my Motion Templates folder only takes 25GB. Check how big your Motion Templates folder is, and you will know how much space it will take. Your boot drive is really small if you want to work with multiple users on the same computer.

25GB? That's huge. Mine's like 25MB.

Hey Tom,

My Motion Templates folder should not be considered as a reference because I own practically every paid plugin that has been released for FCP X. I keep them for testing purposes to see if they still work with new versions of OS or X.

wow, impressed (and a bit jealous ;) )

… and as Motion plugin maker a bit surprising: the HDD-eaters are less the 'functional' parts than any included media (had once a custom-made generator, including 5secs-videos of each player in a soccer team: one gen = 1.8GBs) … taking that into calculation, 25gigs are not that much…

sorry for getting off-topic… :)

Let me add some thoughts to what Ronny said.
First of all the plugin management is a PITA with X.
Especially since every custom effect is saved to the user folder by default with no choice.

Standard locations are:
1) ~/Movies//Motion Templates.localized
2) /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Templates.localized

1) is the Movie folder for every user - so templates stored there only can be used by this user.
2) is the root Library folder of your boot drive - so templates can be accessed by every user.

As said above, all templates you create by your own are stored there.
Several other custom templates (free or paid) are stored there as well.
fxFactory installs the templates (most of them) at this location as well, but they behave different. If you create a new user fxFactory will install the loaded/licensed templates automatically.
Other vendors/developers install in "/Library" - this is trouble free for all

On the first glimpse it's true, but with the above in mind be careful.
First create an copy of your 'Motion Templates' folder on an external disk or another partition - you can't copy from one user to another in Finder.

I would recommend this last option. And move those from your 'Motion Templates" folder to Library before it's too late.
The projects you've done already won't find these moved templates anymore.

Another advice: don't use FCP's option to save templates in the bundle - you'll soon end up with duplicates.
