With the Creative Summit 2018 just around the corner (just read the fcp.co article), has anybody heard about an FCP upgrade? Last two years they were at least announced there. In 2016, the session descriptions included some fuss about roles, in 2017 about color correction. This year I found this:

Will we get a compare function (something that's really missing now, imo)?

What do you think?

"Those who tell don't know, those who know don't tell" I guess.

Interesting:
on day#1 of CS the time-slot for @Apple Park is FOUR hours … and I dare to assume, it's not an Q&A with Sir Ive about designing door-knobs and soap-dispensers …

I'm not shy to repeat my assumption, the built-in marvels of Mojave/iOS, as object-tracking and object-identifying, should find its way into FCPX…

My personal highlight would be a node-based MotionX … just dreaming … LOL

Side note: stacks are brilliant. Even more the preview shortcut spacebar. This is what I call user friendly. I go up and down in the list of clips, I hit space to play them and then again to go back to list view. Very cool feature.

As a further optimization, you don't even have to hit space twice. You can simply press and hold the spacebar to view the item, then release when you're done. While holding down the space bar you can use the arrow keys for next/previous file. This isn't unique to Mojave -- it's been there a long time.

Hopefully something truly revolutionary is announced.... like that little thin extra screen that displayed extra info on certain apps on some Macbooks. I can't even remember what that was called, that's how revolutionary it was.

Hi everyone!
Are we even sure there will be any announcement?
I mean, will there be a keynote done by the FCPX Apple Team? iJustine is announced to host the keynote, right?
I'm a bit confused...
And we'll there be a live stream of the event?
Thanks

The last several years a sneak peak at the annual update has always been a part of the Creative Summit. Apple doesn't do the keynote at this event, traditionally. They are doing to the mothership on day 2 as they do traditionally, which is where the sneak peak is usually done. I see no evidence that this year should be any different from previous years. And after the sneak peak, the actual release isn't for a couple of months. So we'll get some news about the next big annual update, but not see it for a bit. Nothing to be confused about, it's the same type of schedule as they've always had. They're just going to a country club for a fancy keynote and lunch this time.

In 2016, the release of 10.3 was actually on October 27th, the first day of the Creative Summit. In 2017, it seemed to me that they hadn't been ready yet. Remember the noise reduction on the feature list that disappeared after a few hours?

I also hope for new iMacs.

I've been to this thing before, and that 4 hours will include a tour of the new facilities, which according to my friends who've been there, can take a long time, simply because of how enormous the place is. Then the sneak peak presentation they have done in the past was about hour and a half, when I was there. Plus time we had to play with new hardware, go to the company store, etc. So four hours doesn't seem like that long, in context. Makes sense. Tour the new HUGE campus, presentation, shop at the company store.

You mean the way Sam Mestman suggested to further make subroles more distinguishable?

I thought this was over the top then. But imagine you have various international versions, wouldn't it be nice to tag the roles (of the dialog-role, of the subtitle-role) with a flag? Very niche though, I think.

I give up. It’s impossible to be humorous anymore. The most outlandish statements intended to convey humour by their sheer unlikelihood are immediately overtaken by reality. :woohoo:  :S

Serious one: I'd like to be able to click on a video layer in the viewer and have that click activate the Transform tool.

I foresee changes to captioning, including the ability to export open captions and SRT files, a new timecode window that can display timeline or source timecode, extensions so FCPX can work with third-parties like frame.io and shutterstock, batch exports and some other stuff I can't remember. Foresee. Whatever.
