Hello,

As a newcomer to both FCPX and filmmaking, I wanted to ask the community here if there is such thing as a light compressor ... a plug-in or effect (in FCPX or in general) that keeps the lighting steady throughout a shot? I ask because the film that I'm currently working on has long shot in which the lighting abruptly becomes darker in the middle of the shot. I've tried cutting up the shot where the light changes and then applying Color Board and Match Color to match the two halves but, have noticed that FCPX begins lagging in a big way. When I cut off Color Board and Match Color, etc., it works fine. Don't know why this is, as I have applied both of these effects to other clips without any lagging.

If such an effect exists, please let me know .. I'd be really grateful!

Thanks kindly

What are your hardware specs?

And no, there's no magic "fix my exposure" button. Wish there was. But, you can keyframe your color grade to compensate rather than cut the clip up. Then you get a more gradual change.

In line with what FCPX.guru said, it's easy to add a keyframed color or exposure correction. FCPX will automatically blend the differences so it appears to be smooth. See this Larry Jordan video:
