Apparently Apple improved support for regular spinning disk drives under Mojave, but I haven't risked it on my media drives so far. Anyone have experience running APFS on HDDs?

The recommendation by people who really know this stuff is to not use APFS on spinners. It’s a format really designed for SSDs where there’s no seek time.

I have a couple of external drives we use for transferring files and Libraries via sneaker net , one SSD one HHD, both 1TB, both formatted to APFS to see how they'd perform. I don't see any difference between the two in real world use. I think my HHD is a tad quicker, in fact.
