I just picked up a nice little split screen Plug in from LenoFX and as I was experimenting with it it reminded me of a long time issue that I have never really reconciled. That is...once I drop a clip in one of the wells in this plug in (or any effect with a well) there does not appear to be any way to color correct it after its in the well. So for example this effect has a three panel split screen. I just dropped a clip in the well for panel one...now I can't actually do anything with it. Right ? Not right?
My work around has always been drop a clip in the timeline...color grade it or whatever things I wanted to do...export that clip...then reimport it ...then drop it in the well.
Please tell me there is a better way?

Color Correcting After Dropping a Clip in a Well

It's probably best to grade the clip prior to placing into the templates drop zone as mentioned, but - you could grade them in the template by drawing a mask around each section of the split screen (separate one for each) and then grade that section inside the mask. If the split screens animate in a complex fashion, this would be an issue, but for simple non moving sections it can work.
