Hey guys, first off thank you in advance, I was unable to locate an answer searching around.

I have footage from a hero6 shot in 4k 4:3 which according to them is 4k 4:3 24p 4096x3072 When I import it on my mac in both fc and qp its stuttering bad. On my pc it is fine.

I've tried 3 projects selecting 23.98p 24p and finally realizing that its the difference in dimensions that fcp has no selection for 4096x3072.

When selecting NEW PROJECT the drop down gives 4096x3112 or x2304. I would have assumed this wouldn't cause the issue but on AUTO, 24 and 23.98p it stutters so what else could it be??? I've tried compound clips, rednering it with the analyze fix and transcode selections .

THE ONLY work around I found was to throw in into compressor and get an output of 4k mp4 .

In the future I can probably change the gopro OFF 4:3 but I need this clip.

4:3 is SD ratio, not HD. Why are you filming in 4:3 aspect ratio? It's not standard, you should be in 16:9. Either way, I don't think that's the issue. I think the way GoPro encodes the file is an issue. Stuttered playback is usually overwhelmed hardware. What are your Mac's specs?

You may simply need to Optimize the clips when you import or create Proxies during import.

The camera was set to 4k 4:3 by accident I was fat fingered when trying to match it to my Limux g85 shooting 4k at 24p

the mac is quite old now, its a 2.2hz i7 8gb ram

the footage from the lumix is non-issue.. My go pro has always been a PIA

Why would go pro have the option anyway?

This is one of the GoPro options. It gives you the ability to reframe vertically. Therefore you end up cropping the top or bottom somewhat when you place it into the sequence. GoPro codecs are taxing, so transcode before importing or optimize, but keep it at the native frame size.

I'd probably just transcode the GoPro to a codec that is easier for your Mac to playback. Either just Optimize upon import, or manually with Compressor before import.

Thank you, I think running it through compressor will be the new process. what a pia.

Took me 2 hours to get fcpx up to 10.4.6 last night was stuck at 10.2.2 or something after the latest mojave....

Guess thats what I deserve for only using my mac once or twice a year lol
