Adding 3D objects into a video 20 Oct 2019 03:05 #102151

Hello,

I'm somewhat new to FCP and adding 3D objects into videos. I am a photographer and do a lot of real estate photos and videos. I've recently started adding small graphics—arrows, text, pins, outlines—to some of my drone videos using the C2 DriveX plugin and I'm happy with the results.

What I'd like to experiment with is adding my own 3D objects into videos. I've seen a few plug-ins that allow you to add 3D objects into other 3D environments, but I want to add something to a video I've taken and have it track an anchor point and even rotate in 3D with frame tracking.
For example, I take a drone video of slowly panning an empty street corner and then convert an architect's 3D model into an object that I could place in the empty lot to offer a preview of the project.

Are there any plug-ins that would make this a relatively simple process?

You absolutely need mO2 from MotionVFX.
www.motionvfx.com/store,mo2,p2345.html

The catch is getting a transparent/alpha channel background. A major update in Dec we think will add this. But there are easy workarounds until then. I highly recommend you join the mO2 Users Facebook group, too. There is nothing else like this for FCPX and Motion.

Do you want to import the actual 3-D file (OBJ, C4D, 3DS) or a rendered version of the object? Do you want to be able to alter the original 3-D files? Most 3-D animation software can have a video in the background. It might be better to import the video into the 3-D animation software instead of importing 3-D objects into FCPX if you are going to do this a lot. Having said that it really depends on what you want to do.
