After experimenting with FCPX for a while to learn the software, I have noticed that it can be a memory hog, and I should start with good file management. I will be storing all original media and its edited versions on secondary drives. However, I still have some basic questions and would appreciate some guidance.

Once a video is complete, can I move all related work out of FCPX and onto a secondary drive? If so, is it just the library I need to move? Is there a preferred way to do this?

Should I need to come back at a later date and update the video, is there an import option for the library or drag and drop?

Or, am I way off base with my thoughts here? Thanks for your advice.

The Finder is your friend in this situation. Open the folder that has the library in it. Then drag the library to the secondary drive to copy it. Once the copying is completed you can delete the library from your primary drive. The library holds all the resources that you imported into it. If you need to open the library again you can either open it directly from FCP or double click the file.

I usually create a folder for the project and put any odds and ends that were not imported into the library in the folder along with the library.
