I'm needing access to Final Cut Studio 2009 again and it seems that I'm hitting a roadblock at each turn. Couple of questions:
  1. What was the last working version of macOS for Final Cut Studio? (10.12 fails with `colorPicker` errors.)
  2. Have you had any success with Final Cut Studio apps working in a virtual machine? I presume animations could throw a wrench in it, but I also suspect you can disable animations in order to push through the discomfort...

Hi ylluminate
Welcome to the forums.
Various parts of FCS have been dropped at various OS's. STP, Colour, and others will no longer work, however, FCP continued to work for the most part until High Sierra where Apple has red listed the app altogether. It will no longer work at all and there is some discussion that even in VM it may not work with the latest iMacPro. What Mac and model you have also limits what works and doesn't and using VM for OS versions. Graphic card support may play a role here.
AFAIK the color picker should work, but not Color the app in FCS2. Color Picker is a system resource, not app specific and I am not aware of issues inside FCP. Try deleting preferences and see if problems persists. Try different user. Do you have custom colors and is this the issue?
I last used FCP7 in El Captain w/o big issues, but I just export the XML via XtoPro (now X to CC) and use FCPX for editing. Really don't miss 7 at all.
By and by, Motion is an independent app and so you can use the latest version 5 for FCP7 work.

Hope this Helps, Greg

Hey Greg, thanks for that! I've got an old Mac that I'm trying to get it to work on and I was attempting to figure out which version of Mac OS X (macOS) I should run on it in order to get the "best" experience possible.

I tried the VM path on multiple machines and I keep getting problems with not having video acceleration - installation won't even work with that due to tests that are run from the installer, which is where the real hangup is there.

I recently saw this, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Seems like a path that could work as far as getting this going on a virtual machine:
