TOPIC: AB Source Strobe Effect

Re: AB Source Strobe Effect 22 Feb 2012 10:30 #4685

I put the ABSourceStrobeEffect into my Motion Templates>Effects but for some reason it won't show up...It also reads as "MotionTemplates.localized". Is that a problem?

Did you just put the "AB Source Strobe.moef" in the effects folder? If so that won't work, you need to put either the "AB Source Strobe" folder in your "Effects" folder to see the effect listed under "All" or put the "Nocommotions" folder in your "Effects" folder to see it listed under a Nocommotions category.

You mention the .localized extension, these should be there and are as created when installing Motion 5. Motion creates the "Motion Templates" and sub folders with this extension, anything deeper than that doesn't have it. My upload has it on the effects folder, if you have your folder structure installed by Motion just do as in the first paragraph, if you created it yourself, you need to make sure these extensions are there.

let me know how you get on. I have the latest version of this being reviewed as a free download for the app store as we speak, so assuming the code is all good it will be available in the next few days and will install with the click of a button.

I strongly recommend that you download and install the free Motion Templates installer from Spherico:

www.spherico.com/filmtools/

This should solve all your Motion Template install headaches. This is continually being updated with some very cool stuff to make life easier.

Thanks Simon, This effect was uploaded before the release of the installer and has since been packaged in it's own installer which will be available soon for download.

I taken a quick look at the Spherico installer, A few months back I had initially planned on something similar, at base function, but with a different operation procedure, I was hoping to make time for a further look soon so it's good to hear there's more stuff being added to it.

I gave this a new topic, but just for completeness in this one the final version can be found here.

I was brought here via google search and am wondering if you know of a similar stroboscope effect that doesn't cut between two clips but just removes frames at a desired interval and keeps one frame on the screen for a desired amount of time. I think there used to be an effect like this in FCP and even iMovie.

Basically the effect would 'pause' on a frame every so often depending on how fast the strobe was. It gave it a sort of animated stop motion effect in some ways. For example a setting of 5FPS would be a sequence of 5 still frames evenly spaced every second.

If you know of a free filter that can do this please let me know, or if you know how I can create one let me know. Thanks!

I think that is the Strobe effect in Motion.

This one here will do that, but it will only do an emulation of 3, 6, 12, 18 or 24 frames per second
