There were a great plugin for fcpx called Tonalizer VFX, from the same guys that created RAW shooter essentials, a brilliant piece of software that was bought by Adobe. I read somewhere that they also sold them Tonalizer. The problem is that after fcpx 10.1, the version of Tonalizer that I has is not working anymore and these guys have dissapeared from earth.
I loved the shadow/highligths capabilities of the plugin, similar to the Lightroom ones.
I cannot find anything with that quality. I've tested HyColour Pro and Crumple Pop plugins (which I like for other uses) but I don't like the results, specially with highlights recovery.
Any advice appreciated.

Tks

Pablo

Magic Bullet Looks? Resolve? Hawaiki Color?

Just shooting in the dark here - I use and LOVE HyColour Pro, but rarely need to use highlight recovery.

Hi Pablo,

not sure why your version of Tonalizer does not work in 10.1, because I have it working on 10.1 with OSX 10.9.2, just used it today exactly for the same functionality : Highlights recovery.

It is sad that the Irudis team could not stay in business with this plugin, definitely one of the best I have lying around. For your info they are now involved with live picture enhancement with a product called LiveScene. Check them out here

I'm having a problem with Tonalizer using 4k clips. As long as I'm working with proxies everything is fine with tonalizer, but I cannot work with original material, neither in a 4k timeline nor in a 1080p timeline. :( I get a render failure notice.

I checked: tonalizer works with hdv footage.

Well, not sure if Resolve can handle highlights recovery as Tonalizer, but I was looking for a plugin solution rather than a new software. I've tried Resolve and it has a learning curve. For sure it is worth it, but at this moment I cannot spend time learning it and I prefer to go for a plugin solution. In fact, I can use photoshop for highlights recovery, and since i'm photographer and very familiar with it. But the extra step needed is what I was trying to avoid. I've tried Magic bullet Looks but cannot get the same results.

Not sure what version of Tonalizer I have, but mine is not working in any footage (hdv either). And with no longer support fot 2k or 4k it's not the solution I'm looking for.

I'll take a look at Hawaiki. Tks for the advice.
Three years have gone since fcpx appeared, but I still find that color correction is one of the most disregarded areas of the software. Media managment for example, which was another concern, was really improved and now is a joy to work with fcpx.

Best,

Pablo

Have the same problem but only with 4k original material even on a 1080p timeline. So I made a compound clip of the clip I wanted to adjust with Tonalizer and then used Tonalizer on that as usual.

IMHO. standard color correction enough.
I compared and found no need to use the Tonalizer plugin for highlights rescue.

but maybe for someone "Leveler" by CrumplePop from Color Kit plugin could be more helpful.
Alex4D Leveler the same and free :)

HyColor is the closest one I can think of. I used that before I began using Color Finale . The controls are quite similar to Tonalizer.

With a budget being an issue, does Color Finale match with Red Giant? Or are there tools than these two?
I'm using FCPX 10.2 and the stock color correction is inadequate.
