offside! plug-in & tutorial 04 Aug 2014 19:41 #50968

I dare it:

My first plug-in publication and my first FCPX-tutorial - yippieh! ok, it is a real cheap one: just a yellow line ;)

The usual procedure for installation: download and un-zip, drag it into Movies/Motion Templates/Generators …

Forgive me my English, the tutorial is mostly self-explanatory. The whole ‚trick‘ is, to use the distortion tool to adjust the frame of the line to the perspective of the field. Use the marks on the green for orientation.

When the adjustment is done, the x-parameter puts the line where it is needed - the perspective will fit automatically. For customization, I published color and opacity …

I guess, this is the most simplest plug-in ever, LOL! … Enjoy!

OK, I agree that it is ridiculously simple. But do not deprive its genius. It's like when you add some simple effects to a photo in Photoshop and get dazzling results. I bet that this is exactly how they do this for real, except that it is a live plug-in. Very useful... very!

Thanks for the 'flowers', Blext, glad you like it.

The 'genius' part in making it, was, after trying endlessly to establish '3D camera controls', to realize that the play-field has 'markers' I can use for 'stretching' the frame into perspective, that simple - for my static top-cameras that's all I need. If your cam moves, you can keyframe the distortion - depending, how much your cam moves ;)

yepp, in real life, they use a motion control/detection system, after matching cam to perspective ... what I like a movin' lines, such as in use at swimming contest, to marker WR etc ...

feel free to modify it! .. I tried a simple 'animation' ON the line ('crawling ants') to catch some more attention by the viewers ...
