First experiment with the 360 ° environment of Motion 5.4.

NativeSpirit2c.jpg

The animation is very simple just to become familiar with the new environment. The first impression is that it is something stuck on the old program (like the 3D text environment) and that once again mother Apple has lost the opportunity to make the environment a real 3D. What to say? apart from some changes in a couple of filters and the fact that the text generators have returned to normal operation, at a first superficial inspection I notice nothing different than before (Perhaps the rendering engine seems to have improved). However, the result is not bad.

My biological father is full Eastern Cherokee. That pipe to many indigenous nations is like the bible. How it's made, each part, the steps of the ceremony, all tell the story of how we got here, and how we were told to live by the creator. Thus, very interesting to me. Good work, looks really nice. One minor correction, technical, the end of the pipe you suck on doesn't have a mouth piece. Rarely is one carved into the wood for decoration. Just technical junk. But great work!

Yeah, what the heck is going on with Motion? They have a whole team developing it, and only that one app. They're separate from the FCPX team, too. Why are they only giving us like one new behavior and stuff? Where's the full 3D environment? Are they all part-time workers?

Hi Ben! I knew that the Peace Pipe had a religious meaning, but I didn’t know it was so important. Thanks for how you described it. The Peace Pipe should be in this way I suppose

Calumet_N2.jpg

But for the construction I looked around the web and in some original photos there was the mouthpiece and carved animals ( www.whitewolfpack.com/2015/05/native-ame...pipe-and-sacred.html ). Probably in the Cherokee tradition these elements were not present.
P.S. After seeing Gorliner's article on the 360 ° environment of FCPX, I think your considerations are are well founded.

Please, is is a "ceremonial pipe" not a "peace pipe". That's a horrible hollywood fake name assigned to it. Or we could refer to the Holy Bible as a Christian Novel instead. Just to make a point.

Some pipe makers use a mouth piece, but more often not. It is actually a Lakota/Dakota religious object that was adopted by many other nations over time. Pipe making is a whole art form, and designs can vary a great deal, especially with the more modern/younger makers. The stem is OK, but most of the ones I've encountered in my life don't have a stem. Either way is fine. Just depends on the look your going for. And the red color was spot on, very common color used in ceremonies for many indigenous nations.

The important point it, you can add it or remove it so easily! That's very cool!

I do notice at about 8-ish seconds the dream catch and the pipe switch places in space. One suddenly pops behind the other when it was in front the frame before.

You are right “Ben Lynx eye”. The problem arose because the presence of the wolf's head in the dreamcatcher, it begins too early when the overlap with the peace pipe has not yet ended. The wolf's head is made up of smoke (particle emitter) that rasterizes the scene Correction is simple enough, I have to make it appear after the overlap is finished so the scene will no longer be rasterized and the plans will be correct. As you see this is one of the reasons why I say that the program iit's basically a 2.5D app with 3D components stuck on it and that mom apple has missed the chance to get out of this hybrid misunderstanding. Now I have replaced the video with the correct one. In the video that I will upload in the next days for the good wishes I had to do a big job to solve these problems.

<cough> maestro, you keep in mind, 3D is a title effect, no full-flavored 3D.app?
What I find confusing…

3dish.jpg

how Motion handles layers and 'positions':
• two 3D 'objects'/titles = perfect pervasion, things 'before' cover things 'behind'
• 3D text + a rectangle = layer order defines 'before' or 'behind' (although in layer order 'behind', the 'behind' object even creates a shadow!)
• two simple rectangles = again, perfect pervasion (and shadows), independent of layer order …

That's not consistent. And confusing.

Ben Lynx Eye … omg!! :woohoo:
(cue: voice of Duffy Duck "ziz meanz war!!!" LOL)

Karsten ! You have to get out of the Platonic cave. In this case we need a unifying theory a bit like between Newtonian and quantum physics because the 2D images tend to be managed as pixels without the third dimension and the 3D ones as vectors with the third dimension associated so when the two worlds colliding, a rasterization is normally carried out and the third dimension is canceled and therefore an overlap of images where there are other rules. The confusing thing is that all this (when activating a 3D camera) is managed in a three-dimensional system in which sometimes the third dimension prevails and sometimes not. As a rule when a two-dimensional world (read group level) enters a three-dimensional world starts a rasterization of the system and the third dimension is canceled locally but the global coordinate system remains and so you see these strange behaviors, and as if you go back to the version of Motion before the introduction of 3D text practically in a so-called 2.5D environment. Since many effects, generators and emitters, create a rasterization, you understand how everything is further complicated.
This makes the application very difficult to use in hybrid mode

hahaha, Pielle, you're the undisputed Master in abusing a title-generator for all sorts of 3D wizardry, but no teacher … Wot???!!

No need to threadjack your own post, we both SHARE the point, 2D/3D is a bit … messy in Motion …

Just as a comment as far as I understood your reply:
• Groups can explicitly be 2D/3D … and in my example, everything is in one group
• the two rectangles on the right: if there's no z/'depth', how come they perfectly pervade each other??

for any sort of ray-tracing there HAS to be a third dimension, otherwise the shadow is impossible …

at last in my tiny cave.
which is, btw, Euclidian …
