Hi,

I have the latest FCPX update and I am running OSX 10.6.8. I have downloaded you App from the App store, but every time I launch it or run it, all I get it the spinning wheel on the left hand white box. It looks like it is trying to load the templates.
But it sits there forever.

Is there an issue? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks
Stu

Sorry Stu, sadly there is a problem.

Alex brought this up in post #6001 in this thread. Also the reason being that In-App Purchase is available on Mac OS X starting with Mac OS X 10.7, so the app will run on 10.6 but you need to 10.7 to access the template list.

I'm going to have it put back the way it first was, so the app only runs 10.7 and later, on the next updates.

I'd just like to add the app does run and causes no problems, otherwise it wouldn't have been accepted by the app store team. It's just accessing the templates that needs 10.7 and these run correctly and cause no problems on the latest version of FCPX, as downloaded from the app store, if FCPX/Motion system requirements are met.

Template Master has been updated, now it's back to only running on OSX 10.7. I also added some templates, including 2 free transitions.

itunes.apple.com/us/app/template-master/id500557393?ls=1&mt=12

"Push" is a simple and useful push type transition and "Bad TV" is a transition based on the roll and scan lines from the good old broken television style effects.

No problem Makki and thanks, but maybe "genius" is stretching it a bit, or a lot.

I have difficulties with English expressions, since Icelandic is my native language so I say "snilld" instead ;)

With every FCPX/Motion update I check through all my templates. It seems this time the free "Push" transition behaves strange with the updates. This is both in Motion and FCPX, but differently in each.

I've made some adjustments for it to work properly, I'll add it to the app on the next updates. For now I've attached it to this post incase anyone is using it and needs it before that time.

File Attachment:

File Name: Push.motr.zip
File Size: 5 KB

It's just the .motr file that's necessary

Go to the "Movies - Motion Templates - Transitions - Nocommotions - Push" folder and overwrite the "Push.motr" file with the new one found in the .zip attached here and all will work correctly. If the transition had previously been applied to any projects the fix will take place automatically with no need to make any compensating adjustments.

The latest update is available on the App Store:

itunes.apple.com/us/app/template-master/id500557393?ls=1&mt=12

I added the fixed "Push" transition and added some new stuff, but the free content is a little different this time. It can be found in the new "Themes" section. It's designed to work along side the relevant themed title but some of it could work alone if used without.

The Sk8 Film Mask is a simple film mask effect for 16:9 video and the Sk8 Transition works with the effect to open close the mask on an edit point.

The GTARS PIP might not be much use alone, but the transition could be as could the DeeJay transition.

More new updates, A problem appeared with the "Blur" transition that has now been fixed and I added 3 new free templates.

The "Letterbox Animator" effect that I already uploaded to the forum at an earlier date.

A "Simple Gradient" generator that allows full control over how the colours blend and independent control over colours and opacity. Layering the generator as connected clips can allow for multi colour gradients and blend mode and master opacity settings are available in the FCPX inspector under "Compositing".

And the "Random Echo" title that offers a shaky look with trails.

I also replaced most of the preview video's with video content versions.

I've been busy with freelance work recently but I managed another update. There are only 3 new templates but I still made one of them a free download.

It's a Texture Generator that houses 9 close up images of summit rock surfaces taken on Goat Fell on the Isle of Arran, a few weeks back, at the cost of severe sunburn. It works in the same way as the standard FCPX Texture Generators, i.e. tint colour and amount.

It's called "Mountain Textures", here's the link:

No worries Dan, it's all gone now but there's not much I never tried on my baldy head to ease the pain. Should have listened to my mum, "get a hat".

I've added some more templates, there are 2 free.

1 title, "Random Characters" this animates the characters of a title through a random sequence and can be animated either to or from the chosen words over time.

& 1 effect, "Aged Textures" which is identical to the "Aged Paper" effect but you can choose from a number of the textures available in the Motion library.

Some of us don't have an itunes account, nor do we want to go thru all that blather. How about a link for the rest of us, who come here for the "genius" free stuff?

thanks

Sorry Tan, it's only available on the App Store. A lot of work went into getting it there and I did play around with some other possibilities while trying to get it there.

This has came up before, and also relating to problems with Snow Leopard not fully supporting the App Stores capabilities.

In the end I decided as the App Store is the only place that FCPX is available then it also being the only place Template Master is available isn't a problem.

I just updated "Template Master".

itunes.apple.com/us/app/template-master/id500557393?ls=1&mt=12

It includes an update to the free effect "Aged Textures" to include a drop zone allowing the use of any video/texture as the source for what was originally the FCPX included "Aged Paper" effect.

When using this before the update, or the original, I found it could often help to make exposure and perhaps saturation adjustments to the clip, after it is applied,to smooth out the composite depending on the settings. When it comes to use with a drop zone texture it's not so straight forward, it may seem that some images/video's can work better than others but opening the texture in a timeline and applying exposure adjustments can prepare it for use.

I was hoping that with the new "Event Viewer" there would be a way to make the adjustment and see it update in the composite in real time, sadly there's not but hopefully in a later FCPX update this will become possible.

To update the effect just extract it again from the "Template Master" app and it will overwrite the old version. Any projects where the old version was used will remain unharmed, they will have the new version applied but with whatever settings they had before.

If you want to change the old project version to a drop zone you will however need to re-apply the effect.

If for any reason the effect doesn't update on extracting go to the "Template Master", "Cache" menu and select "Delete cached content" an extract again.

For those who like free templates there might be something of interest in the new description for v1.7 in the App Store.

Template Master 1.8 Update.

itunes.apple.com/us/app/template-master/id500557393?ls=1&mt=12

I added 2 free templates this time, 1 effect and 1 transition.

"Luma Mask", works in the same way as the FCPX "Image Mask", except it works with video, not just still images. So it's great for compositing using mattes and composite layers from 3d apps etc.

"Star Shine", this transition was up for a short time before for free and was removed while I decided how to go about integrating my other app content with this. It is the transition that was included in the "Electric Guitars" theme app, which was sold separately. That has now been removed from the App Store as the titles are integrated with "Template Master".

That and the other added templates are free to everyone has already taken advantage of the "Buy All" button for the previous version.

It's just been brought to my attention that there is a minor code problem that may cause a major worry for anyone who taken advantage of the "Buy All" button in v1.7 and are now looking for their free templates.

The new templates still show up as needing bought when they shouldn't. A v1.8.1 code fix update will be submitted to the App Store ASAP.

For now selecting "Restore Previous Transactions" from the "Template Master" menu will change the "Buy" buttons to "Extract" buttons and all the new templates will be free as promised.

Apologies for any worries caused.
