    fcpx_on_the_iPad

Whoa! hang on, don't spit your coffee out, this isn't a standalone Final Cut Pro X app running on an iPad, it's actually FCPX running remotely. We've seen this before but here Matts Macintosh shows us how well the GUI would work if FCPX was an iPad app. Interesting and frightening.

    how_do_you_use_your_fcp

Chris Culp decided to film himself editing on Final Cut Pro and then compress that down into a one minute video. It made us think of two things. 1: Editors don't move much during the day and 2: There are many different ways to control FCP. What's yours?

  • Hitler hears about the FCPX sneak peak at the SuperMeet

    hilter_fcpx_supermeet

You can't beat a good Hitler spoof when you want to parody some new situation, and the bunker rant scene from 'Downfall' is a particular YouTube favourite. Put together Hitler with FCPX and you've got an explosive situation. And when he calms down and considers the benefits, even the führer can see the awesome rendering possibilities. We particularly liked the bit about clip-collision.

  • A rap about a day in the life of a Final Cut Pro editor

    FCP_rap_video

FCP news is a bit thin in this FCP7 to FCPX watershed time. We could repost one of the cloned blogs about FCPX from any of the 1700 editors that attended the SuperMeet. We could post one of the many CineStyle Canon 5D Vimeo tryout reels. Nope, we have decided to go for originality with a rap about FCP. Just remember where you saw it first :)

  • Editing 3D in Final Cut Pro and After Effects without plugins

  • If you really want to talk about radical FCP GUI design, then how about using this method to display 3D?

Well the puck could certainly have travelled to here by the time the new FCP gets released. Amazing video of what you can do with the iPad2, wearing no silly glasses either! A bit of a tenuous link, granted but at least it breaks up the NAB stories.

  • The longest ever timelapse shot on a Canon 5D - San Francisco to Paris!

    sf_to_paris_timelapse

It has to be a travel nightmare, we all love timelapses but not when the passenger next to you on a flight is shooting one! Nate Bolt did exactly that though on a flight from San Francisco to Paris. The video is after the break.

  • FCP tutorial: Soho Editors with Autoselection tip

Always nice to see a new player on the FCP Tutorial Scene, and Soho Editors show us the simplicity and beauty of the autoselect tool. We bet most editors don't use these buttons.

++ We urge you to watch the GoPro 3D Hero highlight reel on Youtube as we cannot embed. It is pretty amazing ++

  • 'Get' dialogue search tool for Final Cut Pro price halved from $499 to $249

We were pretty impressed with Get when we saw the demos, but always thought it was a bit pricey to fit into the Final Cut Pro 'ecosystem.' Now just before NAB, AV3 Software has halved the price to a very reasonable $249. No April Fool either!

  • Playmobil Apple Store Play Set from ThinkGeek

We thought about a 'special story' for today but decided against it, so why not just post one that we found and laughed at this morning. We love this video from ThinkGeek, especially the first person in the add-on queue. Enjoy.

    bad_Youtube_tutorial

Everyday new FCP tutorials are being added to YouTube, some of them good, some not so good. But, is there such thing as a bad tutorial? (Yeup we've seen Rob's) We think the whole training scenario is changing and us die hard broadcast editors are in the minority. Cue debate.

  • How to fix underexposed footage in Final Cut Pro using composite modes and blur

  • Noise Industries adds two new plugins to FxFactory Pro: Slice and Flip plus new plugin pack Photo Montage

  • Gemini 4:4:4 - A five inch touchscreen recorder player

So we are going to leave the credit cards at home this NAB otherwise we might find ourselves with one of these on the plane back. There are other LCD recorders arriving everyday, but this one can record two streams for 3D work. It's missing one thing though...

  • Final Cut Pro Tip: Control your Fonts! another tutorial from Walter Biscardi

Walter has over 1300 fonts on one of his Macs, that's a lot. Not only does it get hard to pick one from that long list, it will also slow FCP down. In this video he plays font wrangler.

  • Join Larry Jordan for a free webinar "Must have effects in Apple Final Cut Pro"

I'm pretty sure he will be using FCP7 for this webinar and not the 'jaw dropping' new version that we are all very keen to see. Nevertheless it will still be packed with information and good tips.

  • Use film grain, scratches, damage, leaders and light leaks in FCP with the CineGrain Library

It's a forum question that keeps coming up again and again:- "How can I make my video look like film?" Hopefully this post might provide part of the answer. CineGrain have released a huge (and I mean huge) library of quicktime movie film effects on disk.

  • The Adobe team talk about taking Photoshop from Carbon to Cocoa. Exactly what the FCP folks are doing right now

We thought this was interesting as it parallels Final Cut Pro's transition from the 32 bit Carbon API into the 64 bit world of Cocoa. Now why can't the Apple team make a video like this?

  • iMovie on the iPad. Worth a watch as some of the features might be coming to an NLE near you soon!

If you haven't got your hands on one yet, then take a look at this iPad demo video from Apple. Could some of the features shown here in iMovie find their way into the new Final Cut Pro?

  • Free webinar on Asset Management Inside Final Cut Pro 10th March 10 AM PST

Looks like this will be handy, a free webinar about managing media inside and outside FCP. The webinar starts at 10:00 PST 10th March 2011 and runs for an hour and a half. Sorry about the short notice, but if they would have emailed us we could have posted this a while ago.

  • How much faster is Final Cut Pro on the new 2.2GHz i7 MacBook Pros?

We wish we hadn't seen this video. It gives us another reason to want to rush out and buy a new 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro, if Thunderbolt wasn't enough!  We will post the rendering speed results after the break, but I urge you to watch one of the most elegant bench tests going.

  • Speedramps are the cheesy DVE moves of the 2010's In years to come they will look naff. What's your view?

    speed_effect_in_fcp

It started off as a few posts on Twitter about the Change Speed Segment feature. It grew into a bigger conversation to whether speedramps are latest effect that ranks number one on the list of tacky 'eye candy' editing techniques. Are we right or wrong?

  • Make Multiclip Sequence – A Hidden Gem in FCP

    make_multiclip_sequence

A Sex Pistols concert at Brixton Academy. Not the setting for FCP to work it's Multicam magic? Think again. Pro Apps expert Alexander Snelling tells us how the make multiclip feature stopped him looking pretty vacant.

  • Playing card flip tutorial in Final Cut Pro from Wes James

There are lots of tutorials out there on YouTube but a lot seem to go over the same stuff. So it is nice when you come across original content, well presented and with links. Wes James has posted this rather cool playing card flip tutorial with video on the back. Links to the media after the break. (Oh for high quality YouTube poster frames!)
