Need a reason to watch the Oscars on February 26th 2017? The Spanish film Timecode directed by Juanjo Gimenez and edited on FCPX by Silvia Cervantes has a good chance to win out of the five entries on the Live Action Short shortlist.

A late email last night and we suddenly became aware of possibly the biggest Final Cut Pro X news story this year so far.

A Spanish film called Timecode is in the running to pick up the Best Live Action Short Oscar at the 2017 ceremony on February 26th in Los Angeles.

Directed by Juanjo Giménez and edited by Silvia Cervantes, the 15 minute film shot on RED is a story of two parking lot security guards. Luna and Diego work on different shifts and they communicate in rather unique style!

We say it has a good chance as it already has a very impressive list of awards and accolades, including winning the Short Films Palme d’Or at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.

We don't know much about the production yet, we have tried contacting the director through multiple channels, but as you can imagine he's probably a very busy man in Los Angeles at the moment!

So hopefully we will be able to bring you more information on the film soon, but we thought that this news was too good to keep until then.

We wish Juanjo and his team the best of luck for the awards. In the meantime, we did manage to find this 'making of' film, unfortunately for us single language English speakers, it is in Spanish with no subtitles.

And just in case either Juanjo or Silvia are reading this, we would love you to get in touch!
