Met up with my good friend Scott for a flatland session and decided to play around with my GoPro. I Wanted to try out some Slow-Mo stuff in FCPX as well. Here is the result...

Rider - Scott O’Brien
Camera/Edit - Mickey Gaidos

Shot w/ GoPro Hero2 at 720/60p and cut in FCPX

OK, lost my connection to FCP.co while typing before. Let's try this again.

Mickey, did you use the conform tool with the 60p clips in a 24p timeline before retiming? Did you use frame blending or optical flow?

Conformed 60p to a 24p timeline in FCPX and used optical flow

Yeah, I love having the conform tool inside the app now.

Mickey G, how slow did you actually slow that down to? What percentage?

Thanks everyone for the feedback!!

Ben you know I always like to do these style of edits (Slow-Mo, time-remapping/changes, etc.) and FCPX really allows me to do this as quick as I can think of what I want to do.

This was more of a “gear test” and a "for fun" edit but I’m really excited about what I can do with this software (with such ease)

I'm really looking forward to the next update which I expect in June round it's birthday. Too bad it's not a professional editor...

I wanted to do some slow motion experiments using Conform applying 60p to 24p Timeline, and see just how slow you could get before it looked crappy. I guess you saved me some time, buddy! I'm amazed how slow you got, and how good it still looks!

Is it really this pretty full screen, which I assume is 1080p?

I have GOT to find us a new meeting place...

Haha yes it does look good with the original file! If we can find another meeting place with a good projector we can blow it up and see just how good it looks haha

The actual file was 720p (the GoPro does 1080 but at 60p it bumps down to 720) but I actually upscaled it to a 1080 timeline and then exported to Vimeo at 720p.

The reason for this was just experimenting and I think it added a little layer of “grittyness” in the software upscale.
