I figured since I'm working (actually doing a few FCPX training events locally) and can't make NAB Show this year, I'd start a thread to share FCPX related news and reactions to such coming out of it.

Does Dashwood working for Apple now (and he told an Apple employee buddy of mine he's not allowed to say what he's going to be doing at Apple, SUPER secret), does it mean something specific for FCPX, or something that's macOS based? Or something iOS based? Or a combination?

And just what exactly will be be doing with FinderCat Pro?

first of all it means:
all Dashwood plugins at fxfactory are for free … all that 360/VR stuff , and SmoothSkin, SecretIdentity and EditorEssentials.

And rumours has it, Dashwood's hiring has to do with Apple's AR plans … sounds consistent to me. So, probably less FinalCut, more iOS …

Totally agree. The main focus will be on an OS based technology, that will allow abilities in FCPX and other apps.

FinderCat? Anyone actually work with it yet? I haven't had time, and I'm confused as to what its practical application would be.

A friend (who can't be named) is sending me info and photos about the FCPX event at NAB Show right now. The venue is very large, and packed. Folks were lining up 3 hours before doors opened, and it was a LLLLLOOOONNNNGGGG line! The turnout is HUGE! So, yeah, "looks like we made it"...

First time I missed a NAB Show in I can't remember how many years.

Tom Wolsky just posted that lsat night at NAB Apple claimed to have 2 million FCPX users.
OK, so 2 million times $299 is $598,000,000.00 USD. Yeah, Apple makes money off that puppy just fine! HA!

hmm, a company making money with hardware … Resolves price-drop … Avids announcement of an 'elements' version … =

Apple could make it a 99$ … FREE app … at last, with every MacPro …!

yeah, i know, I know - who would relinquish half a billion bucks… hard to explain THAT to your shareholders.
but, if it comes to price-war, Apple is a very comfortable position …

Considering the size of the pro video apps development team (they were all gathered in the room with us at the "Summit" last Oct), I think it'd be hard to justify paying all those wages to develop a free app. Remember, this is Apple. Not even employees get anything for free...

yeah, sure - being rational, there are several reasons prohibiting to make FC a 'free' app, it starts with 500B in cash and it ends with psychology 'no price = no value'…

But … _I_ remember, I got two tees and a luggage-tag from Apple - for free! he he he:silly:

Time was when you took your T3 training you got to get free books about the other pro apps and a free copy of the app you were getting certified to teach, sometimes a t-shirt. Long ago, hasn't happened in ages. I got a cap or something once, long ago. Yeah, Apple swag...

I'd personally would NEVER pass up half a billion in revenue! I'm in the wrong business...

Well, I wouldn't say "greedy"... um, how about "appreciative of a good meal at a significant establishment?"
:woohoo:

Here's a list of some new products coming for RCPX, and most have links to videos demonstrating them.
