Speed? A brand new 17" MBP with T'bolt drive out performs my 2008 MP in every way.

I can also connect iMacs and MPB's to XSAN with no issues.

Connection to the server room? I don't understand how T'bolt has anything to do with that? If you're talking about a SAN network, that's a whole different can of worms. Apples to onions. I have been designing and installing XSAN and FCSvr systems for many years now.

For our studio, we need portability, lots of it.

How is it a different can of worms we are talking about Mac Pro box tower to a Macbook Pro with Thunderbolt. If you have designing XSANs then you know what I mean :P
Maybe your 17" Macbook Pro does out performs (in what) your 2008 Mac Pro (what Specs) .
But our pretty steroid up Mac Pro perform much better in the 3D world, Photoshop and editing in all three A's.

Maybe its time... update your Mac Pro ;)

No, I don't understand what you mean.

But towers don't answer everyone's needs. More powerful mobiles will. That's what we need here in our neck of the woods. We're obviously doing very different types of projects than you are.

Photoshop loves GPU power.
We will see what Apple and Co. will release... just to mention I just did some rendering on my Macbook Pro talking about heat... :lol:

Heat is not an issue on the road...

Not everyone is a broadcaster with 18 workstations, in which case XSAN is the way to go. For smaller facilities and needs, XSAN can be overkill and too expensive. In which case T'bolt can increase the performance of a portable or iMac to that of a tower using internal drives, or in our test, better. That's all I've been saying.

And XSAN doesn't help editing that needs to be done on remote locations.

I still don't get it, no Thunderbolt, no USB 3, outdated graphics card... new MacPros now in 2013? When? January, July, December?

So who is going to buy the "new" one they just released ???

To me, this just looks like a "soft" kill, but it might just be because of my disappointment.
