Hello,

I have a 2 minutes audio clip in main storyline, I need to select 10 seconds in the middle of it and replace with a new audio.
I already have videos connected to the main storyline.

How to delete part of the audio leaving the gap to insert the new audio ? (if I just delete the 10 seconds, magnetic will mess my audio sync)
I first placed the new audio under the main timeline to sync it and now I want to just move it up to replace the main storyline. My problem: overwrite storyline doesn't work with audio

I hope I explained it correctly :)

Thanks,
Ulisses

"R" gives you the Range tool. Select the Range of the clip in the Storyline you want to replace.

Shift-Delete replaces it with a Gap Clip, everything stays in sync.

Replace Edit with whatever you want to replace the Gap Clip with. Set In/Out (rough, no need to be perfect) of the new clip in the Browser. Drag and drop it on the Gap Clip, you'll see a green dot with a plus sign, that means it's doing a Replace edit. When you let off the mouse, a menu comes up, pick "Replace From Start". Nothing goes out of sync, Timeline edit points don't move.

Slip Edit to align the new clip perfectly. "T" gets you the Trim tool, then just click and drag in the middle of the new clip left and right to align it. In/Out points in the Storyline don't move, nothing goes out of sync.

Note: If drag and drop is too awkward for doing a Replace edit, have that Gap Clip highlighted in the Storyline. Then in the Browser select the new clip (and it's range). Then use Option-R to do a Replace From Start edit.

My problem is step 3, how to replace with a clip that is in the audio track (under the main storyline) and it is already a trimmed clip.

Thanks a lot,
Ulisses

It's pretty easy once in the position you're in. Right-click that connected clip, from the menu choose "Overwrite To Primary Storyline". Or Option-Command-down arrow key. It will overwrite whatever is in the Storyline, exactly in it's current position.

I put the audio clip bellow to align the audio waveform, so I get it perfectly aligned.

"Overwrite To Primary Storyline" doesn't work with audio clips, and I can't put an audio clip above the main storyline.

Maybe was a bad idea to put the audio clip in the main storyline, but the audio is the base and I wanted everything synced to it.

Thanks Ben

You CAN put audio clips above the Primary Storyline, but it won't help. No, for some stupid reason you can't overwrite with audio. Ugh...

So, right-click the connected audio clip, choose "Reveal In Browser". This shows it in the Browser, with the correct Range selected. Then select the Gap Clip in the Timeline, Option-R, overwrite edit, perfect.

Great. Replace did it.

Thanks Ben for the workaround!
