Hi,

Is it possible in any way to export the notes you make on clips as a text file? Preferably with the timecode of the note as well.

Maybe it is possible with the xml export in some way, but is there any way to get it in readable format?

Thanks!

Yes it is possible with a dedicated XML helper application. Intelligent Assistance has released ProducersBestFriend exactly for this kind of work.

This helper app will translate your FCPXML to a readable Excel sheet that includes your Notes with timecode, but also much, much more: assistedediting.intelligentassistance.co...tFriend/reports.html

With FinalCat Pro you can do it very easy with Event browser to Text,
just select all the notes and run the plugin, you will get all the notes and time codes in a text document
and it's very cheap!

Bringing up an old thread - anyone know if Producer's Best Friend exports the "notes" as text? Is there any other option that is less money?

I'm curious about this too. Looking to edit notes on keyword ranges in Numbers.

Yeah, I know. It's funny that the mighty media manager FCP should need a media management app put in front.

The said excel sheet has
> a thumbnail of every clip - and that's a poster frame I chose (FCP: no poster frame)
> my custom title of the subclip (FCP: subclip - i.e. as favorite - always has whole clip's name)
> original file name
> file format information (frame size, video & audio codec)
> description - in own words
> length in minutes, seconds and milliseconds
> ratings
> tags (the latter appear in FCP as tags of course)

I'd pay $50 or so, but not $99 or $159 just for this functionality. I purchased Shot Notes X previously, but it only lets you edit items on the parent clip—not keyword ranges on clips.

Someone somewhere has to have something... though in the meantime I can use Brackets to view the FCPXML and copy/paste (not sure that's any faster than copy/pasting from FCPX itself, but the browser still has that disappearing text bug so maybe...)

A simple 'Print' in the Files menu would be nice, wouldn't it? ;)

When you drag marked clips (list view) from FCPX for instance into Pages, you get a confusing clutter of text … but, soon, you find Notes marked, html style, as
<note> text in Notes field </note>

sooo, maybe some expert in Applescript should be able to pick up those parts and filter it …
Not me!! Just saying … I would prefer a cmd-P in FCPX…
