Is there a way to export markers or chapter markers to a list in fcpx?
I downloaded digitalrebelions pro media tools, to try QT edit, but this requires an export movie first. The movie is 4.5 hours and about 150 markers in it.
I also tried markers.app, but this is creating duplicates (dozens of them) and all the timecodes are way off.
All I want to do is export a chapter list, so i can send the client times and names of where chapters will be.
On the timeline, I have about 150 markers (not an exact number, i cant check now)
But i know its not 2300.
What I seen was various markers being duplicated (in the final txt files from marker.app)
Also it didnt read any chapter markers (all other markers it did read)
and times were not accurate.
On another export it did read all the chapter markers..
Anyway i made some 'duplicate project as snapshot' copies.
I did this to change all the markers to chapter markers (one experiment) to see if this could export correctly.
Let me know if you want them and I can send you some of those fcpxmls as well if you like.
I think i have 3 versions of the same project, just different types of markers used on each one.
Today I'm on a machine with 10.1.1 and imported your XML.
Interesting thing is that the imported project doesn't show any chapter marker at all while the XML says there should be 26 (I made just a rough compare)
If you see chapters in your original timeline index just let us know. This could be another ugly bug with XML handling which should be reported by hopefully many of us.
With your chapter list exporter app, do you know of a way to possibly use it to export out the separate chapters as files (maybe as QT reference mov etc..)?
What I am trying to do is get, for example, each chapter as its own clip.
using XMLs, QT7, etc.. is fine.. I dont really care how many steps are involved, I just want to be able, with out setting a million in and out points) to get all the chapters as individual clips as a batch or automated some how. Some apps can get close, but if there are edits in the timeline it messes things up.. for example clip exporter works, but really this runs off of edits in the timeline and not chapter markers..
A way to do it could be export the complete timeline with chapters. Then to script QT Player 7 to select chapters, copy them and save as reference movie.
I haven't scripted QT Player since years, but gave it try this morning and it works really fast.
I modified my X-Type List a bit to accept frames to get an easier base for QT Player 7.
Maybe I'll find the time later today or tomorrow to create a little app which uses the frame out to control QT Player which is usable by "normal" people
All day yesterday I searched the internet for an answer to this..
Only one app I found comes close.. Jes deinterlacer
you can click the little batch=chapters box and reference movies are made from the chapters..
This is good, then I realized that all the ref movies are named the same as the main movie except with a _1, _2 etc..
I realized that I needed the chapter names to be put into the reference clips (or real mov files).
So I changed a couple of the names, then realized that now the chapters will not be in order once the new names are applied.. ehhh.
So really what I need is it to keep the chapter names but also have a succession of a naming convention so they all stay in order as well with a _1, _2 etc.. before the chapter name...
First I made all edits where the chapters are in the FCPX clip thinking there must be a way to get this exported somewhat easy.. Well the long clip with all the chapters is a multicam clip. So the idea of renaming each of the clips (to the chapter names), then exporting out one by one wont work because even though I razor cut the multicam clip at the chapter points, if i rename one of them clips, all change to that name.. a real nightmare.
I am very surprised there is no app out there that can export just the chapters from either FCPX or from the main exported movie with the chapters.. and keep the chapter (or marker) names..
I will probably be getting more projects like this so I need to rethink how to make the project in FCPX so I can easily (thinking the index menu, the meta data field or roles) export chapters as clips. Really surprised that no one else ever needed this... though I did find plenty of people asking how to do the same thing.
I was thinking that if FCPX could import chapters that are on a clip, then I could re-import the 'finished' exported clip, then possibly auto make sub clips while keeping the clips as chapter names... then I thought.. forget about that idea.. probably impossible
