Hi Folks
I was hoping someone could help answer this question. I have recently replaced my GT120 with a ATI Radeon 5770 and now have a GT120 spare. Would installing the GT120 along side the 5770 help with increased GPU performance when using FCP X? Any suggestions?

Not sure, install it, see what happens.

I know Motion 4 and earlier used to have problems with video cards of different models installed.

I've never thought about it really, would be an interesting experiment.

If 5 is anything like 4 then it will only use the card to render that has the menu bar on the screen.

I've read of problems with multiple cards so I'd make an appointment with Ebay

Hi, Did you notice major improvement with ATI 5770? I also have gt 120 on my macpro 2quad 2.8, early 2008, 8gb ram. and because my playback is not runnig as smooth as i wish and i think this might be the problem.

Hi there,
Upgrading to a 5770 will only help with rendering. I also had 6Gb of RAM in my Mac Pro, and I also experienced sluggish performance on playback, and on using FCPX in general. My solution was to upgrade to the full 32GB of RAM. I bought mine from Crucial Memory of under £400 inc VAT, which I think was a bargain of the century. The improvement in performance is amazing. Well worth it if you've the money. If it is of any help, I have 6GB of Apple RAM gathering dust.

Upgrading a graphics card will also help with better playback performance.

A decent FCP X system should have at least 8GB RAM, 16GB RAM if you can afford it.
