Does anyone have a method to capture video from a Sony HDV tape deck to the iMac 2017? I can no longer use the old Thunderbolt 2. Now one must use the new Thunerbold 3. I have searched the web for a proper cable but cannot find one.

Exactly what tape deck are you using? What connection port does it have on it?

Thank you for your response to my question.

Sony HDV 1080i. On my old system using FCP 7 I ran the output from the deck to the Thunderbolt 2 input on my iMac 27". Now with the new iMac 2017 I only have the option of thunderbolt 3 input, therefore, I cannot capture video to the new system.

I am doing a work-around by capturing the footage to my older iMac and then transferring the footage to the new iMac.

Hi Nemo Apple sell this one ( Apple MMEL2AM/A, Thunderbolt 3 (Usb-C) To 2 Adapter) ,
You can capture video from tape using iMovie. I'm using this method to transfer old tapes from an old Sony miniDV camera.Or I think you could try to capture video from the HDMI out port of the camcorder with a USBC to HDMI converter. I hope this helps you

Thanks for your suggestions.
The best idea is the one you suggested using the HDMI port out of my camera to a USBC to HDMI converter. I can't use the Apple MMEL2AM/A since it goes from 3SUB-C to Thunderbolt 2. My iMac does not support Thunderbolt 2 only 3.
