Strange problem with FCP 10.4 and High Sierra 10.13.2: All footage, regardless of origin and format, looks much darker in the FCP viewer than in any external player (QuickTime, VLC, Kyno, etc.).

The strange thing is that even in the filmstrip in the browser the footage looks normal, only the current thumbnail in the browser filmstrip (where the playhead is) and the image in the viewer it get darker.

Any idea?

I solved it in an easy way, basically everything depends on the type of color setting imposed on system / monitor / color preferences see attached.
if you set a dark color you will see dark also on fcpx then set a rgb color lighter and you will also see on fcpx all right.

That’s not it, unfortunately. Only the image in the viewer is darker than it should be, not on the timeline and not in the browser with filmstrip enabled. All video looks ok in other software, including VLC, QT, Premiere, and even Motion.

See image attached:

No, I could never isolate the problem, unfortunately. I did about everything I could think of - new user, disable system extensions, etc, etc. nothing worked immediately, but one day, the problem disappeared and so far has not come back. Sorry to hear you have the same issue.

I fixed the problem by reinstalling the osx and then the fcpx app.
