Just a heads up - i am working on a simple 2 camera multi cam of a cooking show - 2 streams of 1080p coming off a GH5 - i used to have set FCPX preferences to render multicams as proxies. Obviously this would take up time creating the proxies as well as using up space on the drive.
i recently started working off a Samsung T5 ssd - wicked fast and Portable - but its only 500gb.
The good news is that by turning off the proxy rendering my library sizes aren't blowing up - and on my 2017 Imac I am getting completely smooth replay of the 2 cam multicam clip on my timeline . So happy days!
- I am sure multiple streams of 100mbit 4k at h264/5 would be a different story - but its nice to know when and when not to bother with the proxy render option. For simple multicams with a 2017 imac its just not required! Save time , save space.
