I’d probably use masks (with the colour tool of choice) with feathered edges rather than gradients. You can add as many as you like simply by clicking in the inspector. They can add, subtract, intersect with each other and you can vary the shape and feathering.
If you want to use gradients why not save one as a preset and then make it the default so that you can apply one instance with a key press and then modify?
