Copy/Paste not working 23 Jul 2018 15:02 #96446

Hi,

I recently upgraded from 10.4.1 to 10.4.3, and I can’t paste media from the finder to FCPX. Every time I try, my computer plays that “clunk” sound and won’t let me paste the media. I have to drag it onto my timeline from the finder with my mouse, which is annoying. Neither Command - V nor Alt - V seem to work.

I’m able to copy/paste within FCPX just fine - copying and pasting media from the browser or another project works like normal.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I’ve already tried deleting my preferences.

Thanks,
Oliver

Just curious as to why you wouldn’t use the the Import function within FCP?

It's less convenient.

But it gets the job done right?

It does, but I don’t want to revert to a workflow that is slower than just copy-pasting from finder.

Conceivably, some kind of script for Hammerspoon or something that basically emulated copy - paste would work too, but that seems needlessly complicated.

Oliver, here is the good news... Yes the import interface is slower than copy and paste. But drag and drop beats them all !

so lets be happy

It's not and it's much more difficult to macro/keybind.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue? I've had the same problem on both of the computers I use with FCPX - both only after upgrading to Mac OS 10.13.6 / FCPX 10.4.3. I'm using FCPX with a 2017 15 inch MBP (2TB, 2.9ghz, Radeon 560) and a 2015 15 inch MBP (512GB, 2.5ghz, Radeon m370x).

Thanks,
Oliver

Never tried copy/paste as I set up my keywords before hand to make things easier. But I tried it just now, doesn't work. Fill out the feedback form.

I just did, thanks. So is this a universal or common issue with 10.4.3? It's been out for about a month.

Thanks,
Oliver

I tested earlier versions using the current OS. The problem first appears in 10.4, which was released in mid-December. 10.3.4 copy/pasted from the Finder.

Huh. I was on 10.4 before I upgraded to 10.4.3 and copy/paste worked fine for me.
Edit: although I was on an earlier version of Mac OS as well, 10.13.4.

What OS were you using in 10.4?

10.13.4 - I upgraded to Mac OS 10.13.6 and FCPX 10.4.3 at about the same time.

Can’t back slush the OS so I don’t know. Sounds like a combination of 10.13.6 and 10.4 and later.

Shame. So it's a universal issue, then?

Hopefully it gets fixed in the next point release.

Still not fixed on Mojave (10.14) with FCPX 10.4.3.

Hate to be a broken record - still not working in Mojave (10.14.1) and 10.4.4. I've submitted a new bug report as well.
