I love that I can save effects presets. I have created a uniquely named effect category for each of my last 4 projects. In those categories (sidebar in the effects browser) have stored effect presets that I used repeatedly in those projects. But I'm done with those projects.

I cannot find a way to delete an effects category. Deleting the individual custom effects is easily accomplished, but I still end up with empty project categories taking up screen real estate. Does anyone know how to delete them?

Thanks for the quick attempt at help, Tom, but after searching, I found several Motion Effects folders but most are empty. A few (from Color Finale, Ripple, etc) have content. But none of my own effect presets are to be found.

Could you show me what you’re seeing in FCP?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, Tom. I've never attached screen grab here, so hop this works.
The effect category at the top of the list is __Joao Passoa. That is what is currently open on the right. The saved presets on the right are for various interview shots in the __Joao Passoa category.

With the application closed go to ~/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Effects and delete the effects you want. Then hold Opt-Cmd while relaunching application to reset the preferences. The empty categories should be gone.

Tom: I guess maybe I didn't communicate clearly. I am not trying to delete the custom effects (shown on the right panel of the effects browser). I am trying to locate the "effects category" – in this case: " __Joao Passoa" (see my screen grab). I already know how to locate my custom effects presets. It can be done by following the path you indicated in your last response. It is even easier to just right click on the effect and "reveal in finder." But where in the world are the "categories" (the containers) located? I want to delete the effects without leaving an empty "category" in the effects browser. (And I don't use a generic category to contain all my effects presets because I am often working on multiple projects at the same time.)

BTW, thanks again for working on this!

Oops. Now I see I didn't really follow your counsel. Sorry. Let me try that step-by-step and see if that works.
