Hi everyone - I have a client that filmed a documentary style interview.

They want me to export a separate mp4 file for each answer the subject gave. The footage is a few hours with about 200 questions. Is there a way to quickly send a clip to compressor then export them all at once?

The only way I could think of was using the range selector to select it, send to compressor. But even this seems like it will take awhile. Does anyone know any technique that would help make this go quickly?

Thanks in advance!

Unless there are very specific requiremenst, you can range select and export MPEG-4 from FCP sequentially, one question after the other, without waiting for each export to finish.

They just need H.264 4.1 Mp4s.
Is there a way to make that the default and just quickly export them?

Sorry. I don’t know what 4.1 means. You can set a default export as a master file that’s MPEG-4 H.264.

You can create a custom preset in Compressor, and use that when creating a custom Destination in FCPX.

Thanks for the tip.

the problem I'm having now is I can't run the red raw footage and have to use proxy.
Is there any way to stay in proxy then export as full optimized clip??
(or alternatively, send to compressor not as proxy while still in proxy?)

In the Viewer menu you can switch which version FCPX uses, Proxy or Original/Optimized. What ever that is set to, that is what is used for playback and export. To export full resolution, simply switch that menu item to Original/Optimized, that's what you get. Pretty easy.

By 4.1 I believe they are talking about the High Profile level of H.264. I am unaware of any way thru compressor or FCPX to specifically set that. You will probably have to export a file and then use an application like media info or similar to check the profile level that was created. Profile levels and types can be selected in more advanced compression applications like Sorensen Squeeze and probably Episode.

It can be set in Compressor.

No it cannot. The Profile can be selected, but there is no option to set a level for High Profile, such as 3.1, 4.1, 4.2, etc.

Who gets that detailed? Honest question, I've never seen anyone make demands in that type of detail. Just very curious.

And since Compressor's H.264 encoding supports full 4K (maybe 5K) it must be a higher level than 4.1.

I agree, and I don't think for most purposes varying levels of the 4.0 flavor make any difference. BUT - the OP's original question indicated that his client requested H.264 at 4.1 High Profile level. So, that is one way to get it.

I'd do a High Profile in Compressor, send it to them, see what happens.
