Hi just wondering if anyone has worked this one out... it's a great, cheap/free transcription service and it's possible to upload movies and export .srt files, only problem is the come in too long... any hints?

I use Rev.com as they give me exactly what I need at 99 cents per minute. That's very reasonable. I don't expect quality when something is free.

  1. Upload audio (or video+audio) to Otter
  2. View and fix text.
  3. Download text file
  4. Open text file in text editor and export as UTF-8 (this step may not be needed, I just do this as a precaution)
  5. Upload video to YouTube
  6. When YT has had its way with it, follow these instructions
  7. When YT has again had its way with your video, go to the Timed Text Editor section and download your file.
  8. Upload the text file to a format converter and convert it to SRT (this step may not be needed, I just do this as a precaution)
  9. Download the SRT file
  10. Import into FCPX

If I had a corporate credit card, I'd use Rev in a heartbeat, but the powers-that-be haven't deemed it necessary.

I'll probably end up using Otter just for the occasional interview I shoot so the team members can read the transcription easily for editing purposes.
