What are people’s views on this? Many professionals say they never File Vault their systems. Others say they’ve done it for years without problem. Now that Apple is moving some of this into T2 chips would that change people’s mind? Especially for portable that might be more subject to theft or loss.

What do you think?

This is a valid issue, a few months ago the car of one of our crews was vandalized and they stole a laptop which had been in active use on a project. A RAID array was also stolen. Fortunately we had a redundant array in another vehicle.

I personally have not used File Vault but may in the future. Some comments below from Mac Performance Guide:
