Now I'm really confused about this. I posted elsewhere about the size of the FCPX update but thought this deserved a new topic even though it's on a similar subject.

Last night I updated all 3 apps. FCPX was 1.48 GB Motion was 1.24 GB and Compressor was roughly 496 or 596 MB (don't recall exactly).

When I exited the App store, the icon still had 3 updates in the red circle next to it. I disregarded this and launched fcpx. everything looked and worked fine.

Tonight, the 3 updates were still being indicated, so I clicked to install them (to see if it was going to re-install them all over again). Here's what happened:

Motion downloaded 201 MB, installed and then proceeded to download the 1.24 GB. I paused the download and went to compressor.

Compressor downloaded 109 MB and installed and completed.

I went to FCPX. It downloaded 141.99 MB, installed and then completed.

At that point I resumed the download for Motion and it is currently at about 620 MB of the 1.24 GB.

Does anybody have any idea what is going on with this? Is it possible the original downloads did not complete and now it is getting the rest? That wouldn't explain why Motion downloaded additional and then started the whole thing over. I haven't tried any of the apps yet since this additional download. I will as soon as Motion completes.

My Motion download restarted on my MBP, but not on my MP. Had to shut down MBP before it was done. Will fire it up tonight and try again.

What do the Apps say?

That is interesting. I updated my Mac at home and the 6 in the shop they all went with one take.
As long everything works fine I guess it could be a ghost in the machine?

I'm hoping it's more related to a quirk in the app store and not my machine based on the number of users reporting different download sizes.

Exactly the same happened to me withe the smaller download sizes first then kicking into the bigger download chunks. I'm not getting it either because someone mentioned in another post that the way the AppStore works is that you download the entire application again every time there is an update.

Totally confusing but then again I have had various problem with one specific Lion install and the AppStore where Apps haven't been coming up on my account but after hearing the weirdness of others I think that is a case specific issue.

Funny old FCPX eh never a dull moment!

I have only upgraded Motion so far, but had the same on both the iMac and the MBP: It downloaded 200 some MB, then 1.24GB... weird. Maybe they have started to do updates, instead of the full download, but messed it up somehow.

Everything runs fine, so I'm not worried about the double partial download. Strange thing, though, my downloads were like this:
Motion 1.24 GB then 201MB then 1.24 GB
Compressor 496MB (I think) then 109MB
FCPX 1.48GB then 144.9MB
In that order.
