This seems to be a problem in the latest release. The thumbnail cache files aren't refreshing properly. Which there was a way to post screen shots in feedback.

Yes it's a bug. I have noticed the issue some days ago on our Lion bays, now I see the same thing on a Snow Leopard test machine. We get black blocks instead of seeing the clip thumbnail. Not critical but very annoying, especially when you work with a client

Use feedback. Use it early and often.

What is strange is that the issue does not always show. That's why I have only noticed it a couple of days after updating our machines. I have three projects where I get this bug, other projects don't show this behavior.

@ ronny courtens Are the projects that show the problem unique such as with a particular frame size or something? I have not noticed this at all on any DV, 720 or 1080i or p projects yet.

I have seen it on three projects we do for a tv-show. Project format is 1080p25 originated from AVC-Intra 100. But we do lots of these and I only had it on three of them, on two different machines (a MacPro and an iMac27/i7 both running Lion).

The issue does not seem to be constant, it only happens when you zoom in on the timeline to a certain extent. On two projects I had it with a series of titles, on another project I saw it with a bunch of connected clips. When you zoom in on the timeline the clips don't show thumbnails but just a black box. Not all connected clips turn black, just some of them, and when you zoom the timeline to fit and then zoom in again sometimes the issue is gone, sometimes not.

Strangely enough I just loaded these three projects to post a screenshot and now I cannot reproduce the issue anymore. Go figure. So I guess it's an intermittent bug. I have asked our editors to make a screenshot if and when this happens again so I can send a more detailed report.

Good point. I have checked and all three projects that had the issue were started in 10.0.3 and finished in 10.0.4. Maybe that's the catch. No problems so far with new projects.

Interesting. I wonder what happens if you copy and paste from an old project into a new one.

You may have hit the nail on the head. I just created a new project and pasted one of the problematic old projects into it. Zoomed repeatedly in and out again and saw no issues. This is no rocket science because the problem was also intermittent in the old project, but so far it looks like this might be a valid solution.

I usually never update in the middle of projects, but with so many projects being edited simultaneously we always have some that need further refining after the update.
