Your post was blank for a bit but I refreshed the page three times and then it showed up.....but to answer your question, yes, exactly like you show it. Enable Clip Skimming from the view menu, set the viewer to anything and then skim a clip in the timeline as your image shows. Viewer stays put where I leave it. Same thing when moving over to the effects browser.

Here's a fresh screencast of the viewer with clip skimming.

One question: when the Viewer is set to an odd amount and you use the clip skimmer what happens in the viewer?

Normal Fit To Window behavior.

OK. I don't believe that's the intended behavior. I believe it's supposed to scale to fit.

"Clip Skimming", yeah, goes to Fit To Window. "Timeline Skimming" does what the Viewer is set to.

This is the whole point of the thread. For me, Clip skimming and timeline skimming (and any other skimming for that matter) always does what the viewer is set to. Check out both of my screencasts in this thread.

On my 15" MacBook Pro if I set the viewer to 50% and size the window so there is no overlap I am seeing the full 50% when I skim with either the playhead or the skimmer. If I use clip skimmer it resizes to 25%. Skimming in the Event Library sizes the viewer to 25%. This isn't consistent however because sometimes it just stays at 50% no matter what I am viewing. If I set the viewer to 25% both clip skimming and event library seem to stay at 25% but regular skimming or skimming with playhead expand to 50%. While I haven't figured out exactly what is going on yet, I prefer to have it switch between 25 and 50% rather than switching to "fit". I will try later with an external monitor attached and see what happens with that. I am theorizing that display size has something to do with it and maybe the graphics card but who knows. The thing that always bothered me was the view switching to "fit" after I had set it to a certain percentage so at least some progress appears to have been made.
