Hi there,

I have used super duper to make a copy of my events and projects but now when I open up Final Cut Pro I get the following error message. The only way to get rid of this is to delete my backup. Is there a way around this other than having to copy my projects and events within FCPX?

"/Volumes/OSX Media Backup/Final Cut Events/Project2011 is already open with the same identifier as /Volumes/Media Files/Final Cut Events/Project 2011, so the second document cannot be opened.

Move one of these documents out of your Final Cut Events folder. To avoid this problem, copy events from within Final Cut Pro"

The easiest way to solve this problem is to use the free Event Manager X from Digital Rebellion. This will allow you you check off events and projects that you want to be active when you run FCPX. The backup you are getting thru SuperDuper is keeping duplicate projects active, and fcpx cannot process the same project at the same time.

Another way to fix this is to create two additional folders called "Final Cut Projects Not In Use" and "Final Cut Events Not In Use" and drag your duplicated projects and events here. FCPX will consider those inactive until you drag them out to the usual folders again. This is essentially exactly what Event Manager X does for you with a more intuitive interface.

Finally, if you had SuperDuper backup to an external drive that you could keep offline when you start FCPX, then you also won't have the problem you describe.

Event Manager X is from Intelligent Assistance, and while it's not quite free, it's very inexpensive and well worth it for ease if use.

Thanks for correcting the maker....I always seem to confuse that with prefs manager.

Or don't backup your events and projects to the root level of your backup drive, import them into a FCP X Backup folder on the backup drive.
