I checked the searches and didn't find the answer and I went back a few pages to see if i could find anything but didn't see it so I'm going to close one eye...squint the other...rack up a triple chin and ask whats probably a worn out dumb question, but I'm new at this, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. When I add a "simple transition" or any other transition to my video sometimes it lets me adjust the length but there's one spot where I put in a transition and it gives me an eighth of a second and I don't know how to make it longer, when I attempt to change the duration it does nothing, I want 4 seconds, there's enough clip on either side but FCPX won't fess it up. The answer has to be simple but I can't seem to figure it out. 3-2-1 closing my eye's and pressing submit.

The length of the transition is determined by the amount of available media beyond marked edit points. You need these handles to extend the overlap of the transition. If you don't have them you need to ripple the shots. This has nothing to do with the lengths of the shots. The handles have to be beyond the marked edit point. Use the precision editor to see how much available media you have.

Tom, you have pointed me in a direction which I will attempt to follow this weekend, I thank you much and I will work on this, and hopefully get a better understanding of FCPX along the way.

It certain,y can be challenging dealing with FCP X's limited transitions. No longer being able to add from start or finish can make things painful to fix.

It's here that Avid still rules the roost.

It's an easy fix. Hopefully Apple will get to it soon after all the other stuff.

Doesn't being able to roll a transition super easy replace the need for configuring a transition to start or end on an edit point? I mean, that feature was only a quick (yet limited way) to roll an edit point, right?

No sadly it doesn't. Being able to add a transition of a Pre-defined length to the START of a cut is a one step process. In FCP X it won't apply. So you have to add a transition that will fit on Centered and then adjust. About a five step process. It's very annoying.

I'm not going to send feedback though as there a bigger fish to fry. ;)

5 steps? Not that much. Anyway, I suppose some folks would like that back. Personally, I never used it. But I guess some do. I'd fill out the feedback anyway.

No, no, send feed back. This shouldn't be that hard to fix. Like in old FCP where you dragged the transition could control how it was placed.

Thanks guys, I haven't gotten the chance to try Tom suggestion yet because i constantly encounter the same problem with each video, as I load more and more video clips eventually my mac stops my progress and says I'm out of hard drive space so I tranfer files off the 500GB hard drive and nothing changes so I end up at the store...as I did today getting a 4 TB hard drive and transferring over to that one hopefully that gets me up and running again, i got like 8 hard drives and I guess final cut runs off my start up drive or something so not only do i have to learn Final Cut X but I have to learn this mac as well.
