I just realized that I can create a compound clip that can be reused in other projects by selecting multiple clips in the Event Library and choosing "Make Compound Clip" from the drop down menu.

Is it possible to save a compound clip that was created in the timeline so I can use it again later?

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!! Eddie

You can't copy and paste it into an event unfortunately only into another project.

Thanks... that's what I was thinking, but I wanted to confirm my suspicions.

Thanks very much for your response.

Good idea! I've never done that before, but I appreciate you bring to my attention to the "Feature Request" option.

Thanks,

You can create an empty compound clip in an event and copy and paste the content from one originally created in the time line.

You can then do a replace edit with the old for the new if you want, but it only works if the new compound clip is in the same event as the clips being copy and pasted.

HI NocoDave,

Thanks very very much for this information.

Can you please elaborate on how to create an empty compound clip in the Event Library? And, how do I copy paste into a compound clip.

Also, (sorry about this...) I'm a little unclear about the "replace edit" move.

I'm running out the door... I'll look for a reply when I return.

Thanks! Eddie

No problem Eddie. In an event right click and select "New Compound Clip", or hit alt-G.

Step into the compound clip you had previously created in a project by double clicking on it and copy all the content with "cmd-c" as normal, now either double click on the new empty compound clip in the event or right click and select "Open In Timeline", then use the "cmd-v" keyboard shortcut to paste into it.

If you drag this new and, now populated, compound clip from the event onto the compound clip in the main project timeline, wait for it to turn white, let go of the cursor and select "Replace" from the menu that shows up you'll get your replace edit. It won't make any difference to how the project plays back, just that the compound clip in the timeline will now be referencing the event version.
