Hello, all,

Could you steer me in the right direction as to WHICH .mxf or simply xf plugin I should download so I can cut .mxf stuff from a Canon C300 in Final Cut Pro X?

I went here but couldn't decide:

usa.canon.com/cusa/professional/products...e=DriversAndSoftware

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Michael Scully

If you are on Lion you want Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro X 2.1.

Thanks. I did it. Going to get a test clip of C300 stuff to see how load in, transcode, etc. works.

Assuming you are on lion, look under the software toggle and select the second option:

Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro X 2.1

Works great!

I've used it on three projects thus far--no problems. One note (that caused a bit of panic).

If you are ingested directly from cards (and X is open) the camera import browser launches immediately as soon as the card is plugged into the computer. However, if, like many shoots, you are copying the cards first to drives and then later, after the shoot, ingesting from the drives, the import browser needs to be invoked from the file menu (import from camera). Then, and this is important, select "camera archive" as your source. You will then navigate to the drive and folder where the card media is and all will be well.

That caused a heart attack until I figured it out. The point is--the import browser only launches automatically with actual camera cards. It sees everything else is an archive.

And FWIW, the C300 is a great camera!

Indeed working with on a series of docos all shot on the CS300. Only issues have been with a bit of stepping in the slomo stuff and I can occasionally see slight banding in fine gradients. But overall I'm amazed at how good it looks. Everything was shot with Canon Log which gives you a great dynamic range to work with. We are doing some test projections at a cinema today so will be interesting to see how it holds up.

I was blown away when I first the 5D MkII footage projected so I'm hoping this will be similar.

Why did they go with MPEG 2 instead of MPEG4 Ben?
